Job description

This intern role is responsible for continuous product and process quality improvements. You will conduct investigations (potentially in the form of Customer Complaints, NCs, and CAPAs) stemming from the products in the field.

You will support root cause activities and identify potential failure modes, risks, and resolve customer issues appropriately.

Opportunities Available​​

As an Engineering Intern at Stryker, you will be placed in one of the following teams:

Advanced Quality

AQE interns work on engineering projects related to development of new products.  Areas of emphasis may include human factors engineering, risk management, application of statistics, reliability engineering, design verification, and design validation including customer interaction.  As Homer Stryker pointed out, “If your tools don’t work, make them work.  If you can’t make them work, make some that do work.”  In this directive, the AQE team works to make sure that the products we develop at Stryker will work consistently for our customers to meet or exceed their expectations. 

Quality

Collaborate on cross-functional teams to ensure high product quality, addressing user needs, safety, and reliability. Manage post-market quality processes and design changes.

Process Quality

Analyze and resolve production issues using CAD, root cause analysis, and validation techniques to optimize quality and processes. 

 

Supplier Quality

Oversee critical suppliers, ensuring manufacturing standards through close collaboration, technical assessment, and internal coordination.

What you will do

  • Gather, analyze, and provide post-market data (e.g. Q-metric, service reports, complaints, MDR/MDV, trending) to the organization and identify opportunities for quality improvements
  • Ownership of activities that lead to improvement in Stryker Emergency Care Quality metrics
  • Investigate and drive complaint records to closure in a timely manner
  • Support NC and CAPA process and NC and CAPA investigations
  • Communicate with Customers, members of Field Service, and Sales organizations to gather information necessary to carry out investigations and document accurately and thoroughly NC and CAPA investigations
  • Work with cross-functional teams (Ex: R&D, Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Field Service, and Sales) to drive resolution for internal issues/projects
  • May support Engineering Change Orders (ECO) and Process Change Orders (PCO)
  • Champion determination of “true” root cause by utilizing appropriate problem-solving tools
  • Conduct/Update risk analyses and track all findings, along with the development of a Risk Management portfolio, as required
  • Calculate Failure/Harm occurrence rankings based on field data as required Provide post-market input and feedback on safety, durability, craftsmanship, and reliability design input specifications for Quality reports, design reviews, risk analyses, and customer research
  • Develop statistical rationale for testing, when required, to address post-market issues
  • Monitor compliance to Quality Procedures and FDA Quality System Regulations (QSR’s) and update as necessary
  • Support field action related activities i.e. investigations, HHEs, presentations, etc.
  • Support internal and external audits (FDA, ISO, MDSAP, etc.)

What You Need​​

  • Currently working on completion of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in related field or equivalent; we will only consider students who plan to be enrolled in a degree-seeking program after the summer.

  • Cumulative 3.0 GPA or above; must be the case at the date of hire and will be verified during background check in the spring

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and not require employment-based sponsorship now or in the future.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and proven leadership and business acumen skills.

  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.

  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.

  • Proficient on basic computer programs: Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.

$19 min hourly wage – $33 max hourly wage and either paid corporate housing or a living stipend, dependent upon hiring location.
