What You Will Do
As a Staff Mechanical Design Engineer on our Stryker’s Orthopedic Instruments new product development team, you will be charged with applying sound engineering practices while designing new products and technologies used in surgery. You will stay close to our customers and collect valuable insights into product performance and features. You will have an active role in everything from brainstorming new concepts to commercialization and manufacturing scale-up.
- You will independently research, design, develop, modify, and verify components, modules and sub-systems for medical devices
- You will translate user needs to design inputs/ specifications and produce complex system level designs with some guidance
- You will conduct or design advanced prototyping and testing
- You will analyze and correct complex product design issues using independent judgment
- You will advance solutions by applying in-depth knowledge of customer needs, market and competitive offerings
- You will apply detailed knowledge of clinical procedures to author design inputs
- You will support Voice of Customer sessions internally and with clinicians
- You will be proficient with and potentially mentor others in usage of industry standards, including design requirements and test strategies per applicable regulations
- You will work cooperatively with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing and Project Management to ensure project success
- You will identify and support the creation of or improvements to procedures, policies, processes, systems, and technology
- You will support and execute segments of complex multifunctional teams to advance projects through the design /development/launch process
- You will deliver high quality results with passion, energy and drive to meet business priorities
What You Need
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering dicipline
- 4+ years of relevant experience
- Experience with 3D CAD modeling software (Creo Preferred)
What We Would Love That You Have (Preferred Qualifications)

- Demonstrated mechanical problem-solving skills
- Strong organization and planning skills
- Experience with customer centered designs
- Experience in developing and optimizing complex designs for mechanical / electro-mechanical assemblies incorporating DFM principles
- Experience in creating engineering drawings, models, applying GD&T and CAE tools to optimize the design
- Adept to apply knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes to product design
- Ability to communicate moderate complexity plans and technical information to team members
