Job description

As a Staff Mechanical Engineer in our Mako and Enabling Technologies (MET) Research & Development team, you’ll collaborate with cross-functional experts to design, prototype, and deliver innovative robotic solutions that transform patient care. At Stryker, your expertise will directly impact the evolution of robotic-assisted surgery, making a meaningful difference in the lives of patients worldwide.
This is a hybrid position based in Portage, MI; candidates must live within commuting distance and be onsite 3-4 days per week.
What You Will Do
Design, develop, and verify components and subsystems for medical devices with minimal supervision.
Translate user needs into design specifications and deliver system-level solutions.
Lead prototyping and testing efforts to validate design performance.
Identify and resolve complex design issues using data-driven analysis to improve processes and outcomes.
Apply clinical knowledge to author design inputs and support Voice of Customer sessions.
Ensure compliance with industry standards and mentor others in design control practices.
Create and maintain engineering documentation, including Design History Files.
Collaborate cross-functionally to drive projects from concept through launch.
What You Will Need
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Biomedical, or related field).
Minimum four years of relevant engineering experience.
Experience designing mechanical or electro-mechanical assemblies.
Proficiency in engineering drawing creation and application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) tools and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles.
Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes.
Familiarity with risk management and quality systems in a regulated environment.
