Job description
The R&D team at Stryker Neurovascular is looking for a Sr. Staff Scientist – Formulations and Polymers to support in the identification, formulation, and testing of new polymers and additives for biomedical applications, including but not limited to implantable devices. This individual will be part of the team responsible for leading the division’s efforts in evaluating and formulating novel polymer constructs and taking ideas from prototype to technology and product development.
What You Will Do:
Develop novel polymer formulations and additives for implantable embolization devices and material applications.
Perform polymer and monomer synthesis, characterizing essential physical and chemical features for optimal material performance.
Conduct experimental studies to analyze chemical and physical degradation pathways of polymeric biomaterials.
Identify high-risk areas within formulation chemistry, ensuring thorough vetting through experimentation and targeted studies.
Optimize and scale up formulations to manufacturable processes, characterizing solubility, loading capacity, radiopacity, reaction rates, degradation profiles, biocompatibility, and drug/solvent release mechanisms.
Design and execute pre-formulation and process development, ensuring robust, scalable formulation strategies and smooth technology transfer.
Collaborate cross-functionally with process development, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, and marketing teams to drive project success.
Ensure compliance with quality standards, support process optimization, and guide technicians and entry-level scientists.
What You Need:
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Polymer Chemistry, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science or applicable technical field.
Minimum 6+ years’ experience in the development of polymer formulations.
Technical Expertise: Proficiency in chemical synthesis, mechanical and biocompatibility testing, rheology, and standard polymer characterization methods, including GPC, NMR, DMA, FTIR, and optical spectroscopy. Experience in drug elution studies.
Hands-On Experience: Knowledge of Design of Experiments (DOE), formulation development, process scale-up, technology transfer, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications.
Master's degree or PH.d in Polymer Chemistry, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or applicable technical field.
$100,500 - $215,300 salary plus bonus eligible + benefits. The actual minimum and maximum may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience, and other relevant factors.
