Job description
It's Time to Join Stryker!
This is an opportunity to work directly on robotic-assisted surgical technology in a hands-on environment. You will be part of a small, specialized controls team contributing to next-generation robotic platform development, while learning from experienced robotics experts and helping accelerate future innovation for Stryker’s Mako product lines.
At Stryker, we are driven to make healthcare better. Our Ortho Tech division is advancing orthopedic surgery through robotic-assisted technology that helps improve surgical precision, clinical workflow, and patient outcomes.
As a Senior Robotic Controls Engineer supporting our Mako product lines, you will join a highly specialized robotics team focused on advancing next-generation robotic platform technologies. This is a hands-on, lab-based role where you will work directly with robotic systems and contribute to algorithm development, modeling, simulation, software implementation, testing, and platform acceleration activities.
This role is on-site in Weston, Florida.
What You Will Do
- Design, develop, and optimize robotic control algorithms for advanced robotic-assisted surgical platform functionality.
- Develop, model, simulate, and validate robotic control concepts using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink.
- Create and evaluate kinematic and dynamic models to support robotic arm performance, accuracy, safety, and reliability.
- Translate control algorithms from concept and simulation into platform-ready solutions, working independently or in partnership with controls software engineers.
- Support development of robotic features by understanding workflow, safety, and system-level requirements.
- Conduct algorithm validation, developer-level testing, troubleshooting, and data analysis to ensure controls perform as intended.
- Work hands-on with robotic hardware, sensors, actuators, motors, controllers, and related technologies in a lab environment.
- Partner cross-functionally with R&D, software, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, and clinical stakeholders to support product development and test activities.
- Support development and maintenance of robotic manufacturing test systems as needed.
- Contribute to design reviews, technical documentation, process improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
What You Need
- Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline is required.
- 2+ years of related experience is required.
What We Would Love That You Have
(Preferred - You do NOT need to have ALL of these!)
- Master’s degree or PhD in Robotics, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls, or related discipline.
- Experience or strong academic/project background in robotics, mechatronics, control systems, or related technologies.
- Working knowledge of robotic controls, including control algorithm development, modeling, simulation, or validation.
- Experience with robotic modeling concepts, including kinematics and/or dynamics.
- Experience using modeling, simulation, or analysis tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, Octave, Python, or similar.
- Familiarity with robotic system components such as sensors, actuators, motors, controllers, power systems, or related hardware.
- Ability to work hands-on with robotic systems in a lab-based, on-site environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues across hardware, software, and system-level interactions.
- Experience with advanced control techniques for robotic, haptic, motion control, or electromechanical systems.
- Experience with real-time programming or embedded software development in C/C++.
- Experience translating algorithms from simulation into software running on a physical robotic platform.
- Experience with surgical robotics, medical robotics, industrial robotics, autonomous systems, aerospace, automotive, defense, or other complex robotic/electromechanical systems.
- Experience with algorithm validation, formal verification, validation testing, or software development lifecycle activities.
- Experience working in a regulated environment, such as medical device, aerospace, automotive, or defense.
- $89,300 - $148,800 USD Annual
