This role is on the Electrical Engineering team at Stryker Medical division's Acute Care business unit. We primarily work with patient handling and patient care equipment within the hospital space such as stretchers, hospital beds, and support surfaces. This role falls under the team addressing the high acuity market, with a focus on products that often come into direct contact with patient. It includes gaining a deep understanding of the customer needs through research and partnership with upstream marketing and also through direct interactions with customers. Working with a diverse team, you will design, develop, modify, evaluate and verify electrical components and sub systems for medical devices.
The role includes the full development process from research to product launch. This role will have a focus on battery design starting with cell construction and chemistries to complete battery pack construction. We are looking for someone with experience in: charging methodologies, battery specific testing (state of charge, state of health, etc.), safety circuit design (overcurrent/overtemperature detection) and risk mitigation.
What You Will Do
Technical Responsibilities:
Proficiency in specification, design and verification of battery charging and testing circuitry.
Expertise in battery management systems and related circuitry and algorithms, including state of health, state of charge, cell balancing, and charging.
Expertise in battery cell chemistries and construction techniques, especially for high power / high temperature applications.
Ability to Implement risk mitigation strategies to ensure safety and efficacy of lithium-ion battery cells and packs.
Independently design and develop electrical components and sub-systems for medical devices.
Through the design process, may design circuits including but not limited to Schematic Capture, Layout and Failure Mode Analysis for PCBA’s, Cables and other electromechanical components.
Analyze & test for electromagnetic compliance (EMI/EMC), reliability, safety, cost and design for manufacturing / assembly / test.
Translate user needs to design inputs/specifications and produce advanced component and sub-system level designs.
Knowledge of wired interface protocols, including I2C, UART, RS-232, RS-485, CAN, SPI, LVDS, Ethernet, and DRAM interfaces
Experience working with suppliers on process improvements, test methods development e.g. ICT, FCTs.
What You Need (Required)
Bachelor's degree in EE or related discipline & 4+ years of work experience.
