Position summary: 

The Senior Director, Enterprise Architecture is a people leadership role focused on Stryker’s global quality and operations technology landscape including advanced operations, integrated business planning, logistics, manufacturing, product quality and regulatory, and procurement. This is a highly visible, cross-functional role that will have both strategic and program-specific responsibilities. As an Enterprise Architecture leader, the role will be responsible for the development and oversight of a global technology strategy ensuring alignment between the business strategy and technology solutions and investments. The position requires the ability to synergize insights, objectives, and strategies across functions, regions or other silos, and blend that with strategies from our strategic vendors, emerging technology needs, and enterprise programs. In addition, the role will be accountable to identify, manage and monitor platform and technology risks. The ability to be influential and effective working with global and cross-functional teams is imperative.   

The Senior Director, Enterprise Architect will also be accountable for developing, managing, monitoring, and influencing our key metrics such as adherence and adoption to technology standards, redundancy reduction, and overall operating cost optimization.  

 

Essential duties and responsibilities: 

 

Strategic Alignment   

  • Create and align multi-year technology strategies that align with global and regional business and IT objectives, inclusive of decommissioning and rationalization plans, and dependency identification  

  • Translate business vision into end-to-end capability enablement across technologies; develop future state vision  

  • Identify and promote opportunities for business process and technology standardization or modernization  

  • Optimize the technology decision-making across the enterprise   

  • Analyze internal and external trends and incorporate into strategies  

  • Drive value through strategic technology vendors in partnership with supplier management  

  • Support or drive business case development and long-term financial impact from technology strategies  

 

 

Architecture design, governance, and compliance monitoring  

  • Develop comprehensive architectural blueprints across various domains   

  • Establish and monitor modern architecture policies, standards, and principles for the organization  

  • Establish and monitor architecture metrics including adoption, redundancy reduction, and cost reduction  

  • Measure impact of strategies with long-term financial analysis  

  • Ensure portfolio investments tie to overarching business and technology strategies  

  • Partner cross-functionally to drive operational efficiencies and process improvements  

  • Leverage reporting tools (Planview APM, PowerBi, etc.) to manage information and derive insights and reports  

  • Align architecture requirements with SDLC requirements  

  • Protect Stryker’s landscape driving secure, stable and scalable technology solutions   

 

 

Stakeholder Engagement  

  • Work in a highly collaborative, global environment including stakeholders, management, and subject matter experts to develop and implement the technology strategy  

  • Facilitate needs analysis across multiple stakeholders  

  • Advise cross-functional teams and senior management on investments, risks, and opportunities that integrate functional or siloed strategies  

  • Communicate architecture strategies and key decisions in an effective way  

  • Responsible to educate and reinforce our organization around strategic vendors, architecture and harmonization principles  

 

 

Technology evaluation and mastery  

  • Perform industry research, complete project discovery, and manage RFx processes for new technology needs with cross-functional teams  

  • Get the best leverage out of our strategic vendors to deliver on our technology strategies  

  • Expertise in multiple enterprise technologies supporting global operations and quality such as SAP (IBP, MM, SCM, PP, FI), Ariba, Windchill, Apriso, Priysm, Demantra, analytics software, Trackwise, or others

People Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, coach, and develop high performing and global teams 

Education or special trainings:

  • Bachelor's degree required; equivalent years of relevant experience may be considered.
  • A Master's degree in Management of Information Systems (MIS), Business Administration (MBA), or a related discipline is preferred.

Qualifications and experience: 

  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in technical or strategic roles  

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in a management role  

  • Knowledge of enterprise systems, data architecture, integration strategies and security frameworks.  

  • •Knowledgeable of current and future technology direction of the industry and corporate and commercial domain areas  

  • Engaging leadership style, demonstrated ability to develop and grow teams  

  • Strong and demonstrated ability to develop partnerships and trust across an organization  

  • Understanding of EA frameworks such as TOGAF, FEAF, or Zachman Framework   

  • Demonstrated ability in driving a large strategy to transform a business and systems   

  • Knowledge of regulated application landscape in life sciences and current platforms and technologies  

  • Knowledge (5+ years) of medical devices and/or pharmaceutical or other regulated industry  

  • Ability to work effectively in a global and matrixed organization structure with significant emphasis on collaboration, influence, and conflict resolution  

  • Strong communication skills with ability to communicate effectively with leadership and technical teams  

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills  

  • High business acumen and effective negotiation approaches  

  • ITIL foundational knowledge  

  • Strong organizational and project management acumen to deliver multiple priorities at once  

  • Strong understanding of application and vendor lifecycle management including the RFx processes   

  • Strong understanding of IT application contracts and license models   

  • Strong business and financial acumen to develop strategies for negotiation and business cases/ROI  

  • Demonstrated management of risks and dependencies  

  • High acumen in all phases of SDLC framework, and familiarity with Agile frameworks  

  • Demonstrated understanding of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) principles  

  • Business process mapping and business process improvement skills  

  • Demonstrated experience in multiple roles across operations or quality including manufacturing, logistics, product quality, advanced operations, or procurement
