Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled, strategic and commercial senior legal counsel to join our legal team. Reporting to the General Counsel, the Regional Counsel, SSP will play a critical role in providing legal guidance across a broad range of business units by solving complex legal problems that can significantly impact Stryker. This position will require deep technical expertise, strong prioritization skills and the ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders to develop and drive effective solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Senior commercial counsel for sales and commercial business partners in Australia and New Zealand to advise across multiple domains, including government tenders, sales and business development deal structures and transactions (including, for robotics and enabling technology products), large corporate buying groups, financial solutions, supply/ pricing agreements, consignment and loan kit agreements

  • Contribute to solutions for legal issues that have a significant business impact on the company.

  • Draft, review, negotiate and advise on various types of contracts and complex commercial arrangements to drive business results and effectively manage legal risks

  • Provide counsel and guidance on navigating local laws and regulations that directly or indirectly impact the business

  • Monitor and advise on legal and regulatory developments, and drive actions to address any legal or regulatory developments

  • Lead, advise on and drive strategic initiatives and projects

  • Conduct in-house training and education sessions to enhance and broaden legal understanding across the organization.

  • Continuous improvement of legal operations and practice (e.g. creating playbooks, templates, preparing and conducting training)

  • Supervision and mentoring of other lawyers in the team

  • Board and management reporting.

Qualifications:

  • Admitted to practice law in Australia with a minimum of 13 years PQE across corporate and commercial transactions gained in private practice and inhouse environment, with a focus on healthcare, medical technology or regulated industry experience preferred

  • Experienced advising across broad range of legal issues and regulations including, general corporate, commercial, competition law, privacy/ digital/ cyber security

  • Ability to build relationships with key stakeholders and act as trusted advisor for the business

  • Self-starter attitude with the ability to work independently and effectively within a team

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Strong analytical and research skills coupled with strong business acumen and strategic mindset

  • Strong judgment, common sense and the ability to explain legal issues in plain language

  • Experience in drafting, negotiating, and resolving complex commercial matters

  • Demonstrates ability to collaborate with and legal project efforts with colleagues in a global, matrixed organisation

  • Ability to juggle competing priorities and deliver timely results in a fast-paced highly regulated environment

  • Technology and digital proficient.
