Job description
It’s Time to Join Stryker!
We are seeking a Principal Electromechanical Engineer to provide technical leadership for complex electromechanical medical-device platforms within our Urology portfolio.
Serving as the technical architect and integrator, you will guide decisions across electrical hardware, embedded software, mechanical systems, controls, thermal and power management, fluid management, visualization, plastics, and disposable interfaces. You will partner with engineering and cross-functional teams to deliver safe, reliable, manufacturable, and high-performing products throughout the product lifecycle.
This is an individual-contributor leadership role supporting legacy products, recently launched platforms, and future product development. Medical-device experience is highly valued, but candidates from other regulated or safety-critical industries are also encouraged to apply.
What You Will Do
- Lead the architecture, integration, and optimization of complex electromechanical capital equipment.
- Define system and subsystem architectures, interfaces, partitioning, and integration strategies across electrical, embedded software, mechanical, and systems engineering.
- Drive technical decisions and tradeoffs involving performance, safety, reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, compliance, cost, and schedule.
- Partner with Systems Engineering to develop requirements, verification strategies, interface definitions, and technical risk-management plans.
- Guide multidisciplinary teams through concept development, design reviews, prototype builds, integration, verification, design transfer, and post-market improvements.
- Lead complex system-level debugging, failure investigations, and root-cause analysis across hardware, software, mechanical, manufacturing, and user interactions.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, components, and architectures to support current and future product platforms.
- Create and review system architecture, interface specifications, engineering analyses, risk assessments, and verification documentation.
- Mentor engineers and communicate technical decisions, risks, and recommendations to engineering and business stakeholders.
- Influence platform strategy and technical direction across the Urology portfolio.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline is required
- Eight or more years of experience designing and developing complex electromechanical products is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience serving as a technical lead, system architect, principal engineer, or multidisciplinary product-development leader.
- Experience defining electromechanical architectures, subsystem interfaces, and system-integration strategies.
- Experience leading technical decisions and complex root-cause investigations across multiple engineering disciplines.
- Experience developing complex capital equipment or medical devices within regulated or safety-critical industries.
- Hands-on experience in electrical, mechanical, embedded software, controls, systems, or multidisciplinary product development.
- Experience with one or more of the following:
- Fluid management, pumping, pressure, or flow control
- Motor control, sensing, diagnostics, or fault management
- Power distribution or thermal management
- Visualization or imaging platforms
- Plastics, tubing, sealing, or disposable interfaces
- Experience supporting products through concept development, verification, commercialization, design transfer, or post-market improvement.
- Knowledge of systems engineering, requirements development, risk management, verification planning, DFM/DFA, reliability, or serviceability.
- Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction without direct authority.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
- $129,800 - $216,400 USD Annual
