Job description

The Principal Architect, Finance will design and oversee integrated system architectures for Stryker’s ERP transformation program, including SAP S/4 and supporting applications. Partnering with Business and Technical Analysts, this role defines requirements, ensures seamless system integration, and develops high-level architectural models aligned with business needs. Responsibilities include reviewing functional and technical documents, validating configurations, supporting ABAP development, and ensuring solutions are delivered as designed.

What You Will Do

  • ​​​Lead SAP S/4 Finance Architecture & Design – Oversee the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of SAP S/4 and peripheral applications (Vertex, Blackline, Coupa, Concur, etc.), ensuring seamless integration within a complex system landscape.
  • Drive Technical & Architectural Excellence – Define and maintain architectural standards, lead technical design reviews, and ensure alignment with best practices across Finance applications.
  • Ensure Seamless System Integration – Act as the primary liaison between SAP ERP workstreams and global applications, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and integration across the ecosystem.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders – Partner with business teams, SAP Process and Solution Delivery teams, and key stakeholders to align system capabilities with business needs.
  • Manage External Partners – Oversee third-party vendors and deployment partners, ensuring adherence to timelines, quality standards, and contractual deliverables.
  • Oversee Risk Management & Compliance – Identify and mitigate risks, ensure adherence to governance frameworks, and drive compliance with security and regulatory requirements.
  • Enhance System Performance & Scalability – Develop deployment strategies that ensure reliability, scalability, and high performance for Finance solutions.
  • Optimize Business Processes – Identify opportunities for system and process improvements, take ownership of key initiatives, and drive successful implementation.
  • Ensure Quality & Governance – Lead architecture and solution review boards, provide technical approvals, and enforce quality standards across releases.
  • Support Financial & Strategic Goals – Ensure budget adherence, focus on value-driven activities, and drive efficiencies to maximize ROI on technology investments.

What You Need:

Required:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Systems
  • Minimum 8 years of SAP full life-cycle implementation experience, including minimum 5 years in SAP FICO.
  • Extensive knowledge of SAP Finance & Controlling (FICO), integration with other modules, SAP S/4HANA architecture, and ERP implementation methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of system configuration, business processes, RICEF customizations, and ERP implementation documentation standards.
  • Hands-on experience with global SAP rollouts, including strategy, planning, vendor management, and execution.
  • Ability to map, document, and present complex business processes in a clear and structured manner.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, MBA
  • Knowledge of and ability to drive IT methodologies such as ITIL, Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile Development
  • Extensive knowledge of medical devices and/or pharmaceutical industry and basic knowledge of adjacent areas in terms of processes, organization, products and IS requirements  
  • Demonstrated ability to work cohesively across a cross functional and matrixed organization 
  • Strong knowledge of Excel Advanced, PowerPoint presentations, Word documents, Access DB, MS Project Suite (MPP/Visio/etc.)
