Job description

As our Manager, Market Insights, you will serve as a strategic, cross-functional partner who turns market, customer, and competitive insights into meaningful business direction for Stryker’s Medical Division. You will support portfolio marketing, business development, strategic planning, and future product strategy by identifying critical knowledge gaps, generating new insights, and translating complex information into clear recommendations that help teams make informed decisions.

This is an individual contributor role with broad influence across the organization. You will partner closely with Marketing, Business Development, and other cross-functional stakeholders to connect insights across portfolios, align teams around key priorities, and bring clarity to complex or ambiguous business questions.

What you will do

Market Insights & Primary Research

  • Identify critical market and customer knowledge gaps and develop research approaches to address them.
  • Lead primary research efforts, including customer and sales interviews, field observations, ride-alongs, and other methods to uncover customer, user, and market needs.
  • Synthesize primary research, secondary research, internal knowledge, and market data into actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Apply appropriate market research methodologies based on the business question and available data.

Competitive & Industry Insights

  • Evaluate and monitor competitor products, services, strategies, and market activity.
  • Identify changes in the competitive and industry landscape and translate them into implications for Stryker’s businesses and portfolios.
  • Connect insights across projects and portfolios to provide a broader view of emerging opportunities, risks, and market dynamics.

Market Sizing & Strategic Planning

  • Develop and maintain market models that help define market size, growth, segmentation, competitive dynamics, and potential new opportunities.
  • Guide category definition and segmentation exercises, challenging existing assumptions as markets and customer needs evolve.
  • Provide market insights and analyses that support annual strategic planning, portfolio decisions, business development, and future product strategy.
  • Partner with stakeholders to evaluate new markets, opportunities, and strategic questions.

Strategic Storytelling & Cross-Functional Influence

  • Transform complex research and data into clear, compelling narratives and visual presentations for a variety of audiences.
  • Facilitate discussions and workshops that help teams interpret insights, align around priorities, and move from information to action.
  • Influence decisions across a highly matrixed organization without relying on formal authority.
  • Build strong cross-functional partnerships and help connect insights, opportunities, and priorities across teams and portfolios.

What you need

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 8+ years of professional experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in market research, market insights, upstream marketing, strategy, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing primary research, such as customer interviews, field research, observational research, or other direct methods of gathering market and customer insights.

Preferred

  • Experience with market sizing, segmentation, quantitative analysis, and/or financial modeling.
  • Experience facilitating workshops or cross-functional working sessions.
  • Experience developing executive-level presentations or using visual storytelling to communicate complex ideas.
  • Experience supporting portfolio strategy, business development, strategic planning, or new product strategy.

Preferred location is Portage, MI or Redmond, WA; candidates located elsewhere should expect increased travel requirements.
