Basic Function

Reporting to the FP&A Director (current vacant), this role is responsible for running the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) function for Japan Division.   

This role will partner with Japan President, Operations leader, & other functional leaders by supporting robust mid/long term strategies.   

This role sits within the Finance team and supports Japan division to achieve its financial objectives, specifically focusing on:

  • Maintain overall controls and drives of all financial aspects, providing financial analysis/recommendations to implement
  • Responsible for the financial planning and projection processes such as strategy, annual budget and regular projections for Japan as a division
  • Appraises operating results and proposes recommendations to improve business results with regards to strategic plan, budgets, projections, and the overall health of the departments.
  • Closely support Operations in the area of demand forecast reconciliations, inventory projections, E&O projections, and other Operations KPIs thru attending S&OP meeting and KPI discussion meeting between Operations & Finance
  • Become an active member of Finance Leadership team to provide insight into ongoing performance and highlighting opportunities to drive sales and margin performance.
  • Support the wider Japan departments through knowledge sharing, financial acumen communication and cross divisional projects.
  • Identify areas of opportunity for business improvement, not limited to just Sales, but also operational business process, and instil a culture of continuous improvement within the team.
  • Plan, execute and finalize strategic projects according to set deadlines, quality standards and within budget.
  • Participate in ad hoc multi-divisional projects that enhance the overall Finance function profile.
  • Direct and coordinate accounting practices in conjunction with the preparation of financial reports.

Responsibilities

Financial Planning

  • Responsible for the end to end Strategy plan and long-term forecasting processes for Japan division.
  • Responsible for the end-to-end forecasting and budgeting process incl. cashflow (AR, AP, Inventory, Loaner Instrument, and CAPEX)
  • Manage the annual budgeting and monthly/quarterly financial projection processes incl. Hyperion reporting for the division and partner with BP FP&A Japan to accomplish full Stryker Japan financials for actuals, projections, strategic plan and budget cycles.

Strategy

  • Support for the annual Strategic Plan process
  • Support Operations team and functional teams in addressing the financial impact of proposed strategies and assist with target achievements
  • Provide profitability & pricing analysis for Japan division
  • Track price/volume change on a monthly or ad-hoc basis and monitor off-contract price approval requests in line with project GX requirement
  • Support marketing to review prices

Management Reporting

  • Monthly reporting package for JLT meeting
  • P&L ownership for Japan division and monthly reporting
  • Partner with Accounting team, Japan in the implementation of accounting guidelines and ensure all Company policies are adhered to within the BU. 
  • Closely support Japan strategic initiatives incl. Pricing, Data analytics, and capital purchase process improvement

Financial Analysis

  • Analysis of monthly Sales and P&L and influence of key stakeholders to achieve both financial and non-financial metrics
  • Support Japan President and functional leaders with ad-hoc analysis to drive intelligent decision making, continuous improvement and strategic planning
  • Generate ideas and highlight opportunities to enhance sales and business performance
  • Close involvement in business development and integration activities.
  • Understand root causes of financial results, investigation of budget variances and formulation of recovery plans.
  • Provide details for expense trends, marketing events and activities, demos and other investments.
  • Prepares and interprets operating results as they affect the financial aspects of the progress to financial goals and objectives: Analyze variances between actual and expected financial results. Present monthly financials to BU management. 
  • Directly participate in the accounting cycle and the preparation of financial documents/statements.
  • Utilize market intelligence data and reports to perform analysis of competitor’s results and evaluate market share position.

Qualifications/Work Experience Preferred

  • 8+ years related experience
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent PC skills including spreadsheet, power-point, Hyperion, and ERP (Oracle)

Education/Special Training Required

  • B.B.A. or B.S. (or equivalent) with an emphasis in Accounting and/or Finance
  • M.B.A. (or equivalent) with concentration in Finance, Accounting or general business (preferred)
  • CPA preferred
  • Fluent in Japanese and English
  • Familiar with JGAAP,  US GAAP and Sarbanes Oxley Act
