Position Summary

The Director, Medical Education & Field Enablement - APAC will develop and execute Medical Education and field enablement activities and programs, that empower and enable our customers and teams to make healthcare better, by advancing capabilities and confidence through connected, flexible and interactive learning programs. These programs will aid to improve patient outcomes and set Stryker as a leader in education across APAC.

To partners with our customers and commercial partners to define the skills, knowledge and capabilities needed to accelerate success, and the safe & effective use of Stryker’s new and existing focus products. To design intelligent training pathways & processes that leverage technology and optimize training outcomes. To inspire and instill confidence and a sense of community with our customers and teams by connecting them through their education journey.

To champion the needs of APAC markets with divisional partners especially during the development, design and implementation of new product training programs. Ensure key education needs are understood and incorporated into division and APAC commercialisation plans. Accelerate the speed to capability for Orthopaedical and Spine teams across the APAC markets and maximise commercial execution opportunities by ensuring education programs enable the key skills and capabilities needed.

To coordinate, develop and execute Medical Education and field enablement programs that ensure Stryker is conducting the right educational and training activities at the right cadence to support the business’s growth expectations across the region, developing key metrics that demonstrate the value of Stryker’s education initiatives to teams and customers. Develop and engage with KOLs across APAC to deliver strong training and education programs, that build the required skills, knowledge, confidence, and that adapt to delegates evolving needs.

To be a Medical Education and field enablement talent and culture ambassador, embed our talent offense to attract, engage, align and develop top talent. Build strong talent pipelines for key leadership roles and critical talent pools. Promote diverse leadership across medical education at country & APAC level, and build and maintain a culture of high performance, engagement & inclusion. Implement and develop the APAC medical education and field enablement leadership team.

Essential Duties and responsibilities

Technical/Procedure Insight

  • Demonstrate high cultural awareness by leading multi-regional teams/initiatives and ability to work in a matrix environment
  • Demonstrate ability to navigate in a matrix organization to influence stakeholders to gain aligned goals and shared ambitions.

Market Insights

  • Predicts the strengths and weaknesses of the full training & medical education program line compared to the competition, across the medical device and technology market place.
  • Leads in the evaluation and selection of competitive analysis tools and technologies
  • Leads analyses of the organization's current and potential competitive environment and strategies.
  • Understands best educational practices being implemented across competitors and key educational institutes.

Customer Engagement

  • Shapes customer value propositions that are consistent with business strategies.
  • Promotes a customer-focused corporate culture.
  • Optimizes market perception and customer loyalty by delivering superior customer value.
  • Reshapes programs and initiatives by anticipating future customer needs.

Program Design

  • Drive innovative training platforms for internal and external customers in collaboration with the broader divisional leadership team.
  • Design intelligent training pathways & processes that leverage technology, optimize training outcomes and accelerate speed to capability.
  • Design programs that build capability, confidence and connection through the education journey from on boarding to ongoing.
  • Implement key adult learning techniques and theory.

Collaborate with key stakeholders

  • Seeks and initiates global and regional cross divisional partnership.  
  • Promote “Interdivisional” collaboration and best practice sharing of educational opportunities.

Project Management

  • Set direction and shape future needs for entire medical education and field enablement program offering.
  • Ability to lead critical projects that span cross regional, cross divisional or new market opportunity
  • Ability to analyze market/external environment and look for opportunities for continuous improvement. 

Training Delivery

  • Drive improvements in our medical education offering and implement globally, including digitizing the sales training process, product education and positioning by applying internal and external VOC.
  • Ensure programs educate, engage and provide a space to exchange ideas to continue inclusion and growth.

Effectiveness Measurement

  • Drive departmental objectives, including budget projections
  • Establish metrics and goals/success criteria and milestones, that clearly measure value created for Stryker and customers.
  • Establishes long term improvement plan and develops action plans to achieve those goals based on metrics.

Strategic Vision

  • Uses strategic planning to enable organizational learning.      
  • Authors key strategy documents: strategic plan, annual operational plan.
  • Gains organizational alignment and communicates plan with key stakeholders/leadership.
  • Directs the entire training program for the organization

Budgets/P&L

  • Manage medical education and field enablement budget in accordance with P&L requirement. 
  • Define plan, secure funding, and creatively seek alternatives to optimize our spend and investment.       
  • Evaluates impact of Training and medical education strategy on the P&L.
  • Discusses alternative budgeting strategies for specific business situations.
  • Monitors and ensures adherence to organization's financial practices and standards.
  • Reviews and approves all major budget adjustments; negotiates and reconciles line-item variances.

KOL Management

  • Grow relationships with scientific societies & KOLs. Voice of Customer (external/internal) – regular lab time.
  • Establishes organizational guidelines for properly addressing customer needs.
  • Synthesizes customer needs to inform future innovations.
  • Develops train the trainer programs with KOLs
  • Partners with KOLs to refine and develop training, presentation and facilitation skills.

Organizational Capabilities

  • Drive the Medical Education and field enablement strategy, goals and tactics in alignment with business and marketing objectives within budget.
  • Ensure Medical education and Field enablement needs are captured and implemented via commercialisation plans.
  • Hire, train, grow and retain talent within team. Set and demonstrate standard for continuous education innovation,
  • Guides teams in the development of future competencies to anticipate changes in market conditions and customer requirements.

Customer/Business Centric Development

  • Empower team members to independently make key decisions.

Brand Stewardship

  • Responsible of ensuring Stryker is seen as educational thought-leader in the industry by developing, maintaining, and enhancing the company's image with our education and clinical offense.

Communication Planning

  • Partner with Marketing Communication, Marketing and Sales Leadership as well as across Stryker's Medical Education teams to drive differentiation across our industry

Other

  • Leads a team of professionals, develops employees, which includes hiring, communicating company policies, coaching and counseling, administering performance appraisals, and enforcing company policies through appropriate disciplinary measures.

The Candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree required (MBA preferred)
  • 10+ years of work experience required
  • 8+ years within Medical Devices inclusive of extensive Medical Education experience ​
  • Proven success delivering success at Regional level
  • Strategic Mindset
  • Strong Relationship building skills at senior level
  • 4+ years of people management experience, leading diverse teams (ideally remote virtual exp.)
  • Financial accountability for independent budgets.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of adult learning techniques.
  • Demonstrated global experience.
  • Expected to create a vision and strategy through leadership and effective team coordination.
  • Will work with leadership to identify strategic opportunities to improve HCP’s knowledge, skills, competency, performance or patient outcomes with the use of Stryker products.
  • Ability to raise the level of engagement of our consultants, priority professional societies, organizations, groups and medical education providers
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while delivering on established timelines
  • Must be able to understand and work within complex interdivisional procedures and policies
