Job description
At Stryker South Pacific, our mission is simple: make healthcare better.
We’re looking for an Associate Systems / Implementation Engineer to help deliver Vocera, our industry‑leading clinical communication platform, into hospitals and aged care facilities across Australia.
This is an ideal early‑career opportunity for someone with an IT or engineering background who wants hands‑on experience, real responsibility, and a clear pathway into healthcare technology and systems integration.
You’ll work alongside experienced engineers, clinicians, and hospital IT teams to deploy solutions that improve communication, streamline workflows, and directly support patient care.
This role can be based in Melbourne or Sydney, and includes regular travel across Australia, typically in short blocks, giving you exposure to hospitals, aged care facilities, projects and teams you wouldn’t get in a desk-based role. This would average at 30-40%, higher during busy Go-Live periods.
What You’ll Do
Early in the role, you’ll:
- Support the installation, configuration, and testing of Vocera communication systems
- Work alongside senior engineers on hospital deployments and go‑lives
- Learn how clinical workflows operate and how technology supports care delivery
- Assist with integrations into hospital systems such as nurse call, patient monitoring, EHRs, and telephony
- Participate in on‑site wireless assessments and learn how voice‑grade Wi‑Fi is designed and optimised
As you grow, you’ll:
- Take ownership of defined system components and customer deliverables
- Deliver training to hospital IT teams and clinical staff
- Troubleshoot technical issues and contribute to system optimisation
- Build deep capability across healthcare IT, networking, and systems integration
- Play an active role in high‑quality, end‑to‑end implementations
You’ll collaborate closely with internal project teams to ensure every deployment meets Stryker’s high standards for quality, security, and customer experience.
What You’ll Bring
We’re looking for potential, curiosity and a willingness to learn - you don’t need to have everything – we’ll help you learn it.
Required:
- Degree (or near‑completion) in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline
- Some hands‑on technical experience (graduate role, internship, IT support, lab work, or projects all count)
- A willingness to travel and work on‑site in hospital environments
- Strong communication skills and a genuine interest in healthcare technology
Nice to Have (Not Essential):
- Exposure to healthcare IT or systems integration
- Networking fundamentals (Wi‑Fi, TCP/IP, troubleshooting)
- Any experience with VoIP, telephony, or clinical systems
- Familiarity with Windows/Linux environments or virtualisation
If you’ve heard of things like HL7, Nurse Call systems or Wireless Survey tools – great. If not, we’ll teach you.
How You Show Up
- Curious and coachable — you’re keen to learn and develop your skills
- Customer‑focused — you understand your work supports clinicians and patient care
- Proactive and adaptable — you take initiative and respond well to change
- Collaborative — you enjoy working with diverse teams in real‑world environments
Why Join Us?
- Build a career with a global leader in medical technology
- Structured onboarding, training, and hands‑on mentoring
- Exposure to real hospitals, real projects, and technology that genuinely matters
