Stryker recognizes that the Personal Information it receives is held in a position of trust. Stryker seeks to fulfill that trust by adhering to general principles regarding the protection of Personal Information.

  • What personal information do we collect? We collect the following categories of personal information: identifiers, applicant records, and professional information. You can find more details on those categories in the section below.
  • How do you use my information? We use your information to manage our recruiting and hiring process as well as comply with our legal obligations.
  • Do you sell or share my information? We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with third parties so they can provide you advertisements based on your activity across different websites (a practice commonly known as “targeted advertising”).
  • How long do you keep my information? We retain your information in accordance with our legal obligations or for as long as reasonably necessary for legitimate business purposes.

Scope
This Privacy Statement applies to Personal Information collected through the Stryker careers website, recruiting agencies, careers website chatbot, Talent Network Forms, sourcing platforms (such as LinkedIn), and social networks where Stryker recruiters receive candidates’ information from the candidate.

Information collection
Stryker collects your Personal Information directly from you, the data subject, in all instances where you provide your Personal Information through the Stryker careers website or to a Stryker recruiter, or indirectly in instances where your Personal Information is provided by Stryker’s partners (e.g. recruiting agencies).

Purposes & Legal Basis
Stryker requires you to provide Personal Information when applying to job openings at Stryker or to join our Talent Network. Stryker collects and uses this information primarily to assess your compatibility with positions you have applied to or to inform you about vacancies suiting the profile you create on Stryker’s Talent Network. We may also use your Personal Information to improve our hiring process, comply with our legal obligations, and other reasons discussed in detail below.
Some jurisdictions require we identify the legal basis for our processing of your information. In those jurisdictions, our bases are:

  • Legitimate Interests. This applies when the processing is necessary for the purposes of the legitimate interests. We rely on this basis when we:
    • Process your Personal Information in order to evaluate your application, including an automatic assessment of your background (including your experience, employment history, education and location);
    • Create an aggregated analysis of candidates’ demographics as part of Stryker’s recruiting process;
    • Reach out to you as a former applicant when a position opens where we believe you could be a good fit for the role;
    • Create a profile of how you could be a good fit to the role you applied for and to the overall organization; or
    • Update you via email on vacancies suiting the interests you expressed when joining the Talent Network.
  • Consent. This applies when processing is based on your consent, such as when you sign up to receive career focused marketing communications.
  • Public Data. This applies when the processing relates to Personal Information which are manifestly made public by the Data Subject – where any Personal Information not specifically required by Stryker is made available to us by joining the Stryker Talent Network or in the process of applying for a position.
  • Public Interest (and related bases). This applies when the processing is necessary for a public interest or for the exercise of public authority in strictly limited cases, i.e. where we would be required to cooperate with the police or other government bodies in case of illegal conduct.

In jurisdictions that designate parties as data controllers or processors, Stryker is a data controller with respect to the collection, use, and other processing of Personal Information in connection with Stryker’s Talent Acquisition efforts.
We do not use your sensitive personal information for any reason other than those permitted by California Civil Code section 1798.121(a) and the associated regulations.
If you choose not to provide the Personal Information we reasonably require, it may hinder Stryker’s ability to provide the information or services you have requested.

Cross-border Transfer
To the extent Personal Information is transferred out of the country where the owner of that Personal Information resides, such as to Stryker affiliates or business partners in other countries, including in the United States, different standards may apply to how your data is used and protected in those countries. Stryker has appropriate safeguards in place in accordance with applicable legal requirements to ensure that data is adequately protected irrespective of the country. This includes obtaining written assurances from any third party given access to your data so as to require them to adopt standards that ensure an equivalent level of protection for data as that adopted by Stryker. If you prefer not to have your Personal Information transferred, do not use this Site.

Privacy Statement for children
Stryker will not collect any Personal Information from anyone we know to be under the age of 16 without the prior, verifiable consent from his or her legal representative. Such legal representative has the right, upon request, to view the information provided by the child and/or to require that it be deleted.

Disclosures
We have not disclosed Personal Information to third parties, as the California Consumer Privacy Act defines that term, within the last 12 months. Stryker may disclose Personal Information we have collected to our service providers—companies or agents providing technological maintenance or working on our behalf to help fulfill business needs, including providing customer services and distributing marketing communications. Stryker may also provide Personal Information to our subsidiaries and affiliates. We may also disclose your Personal Information to others in order to comply with legal obligations or valid legal processes (such as a subpoena), to protect our rights and property, or for emergency/safety reasons. Also, if a business transfer or change in ownership occurs, we may disclose information as necessary to complete the transaction.

Stryker does not share your Personal Information with unaffiliated third parties for their own direct marketing purposes. We also do not sell your Personal Information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising based on your activity across others’ websites (a concept known as “sharing” under California law).

Security
The security and confidentiality of your Personal Information matters to us. For this reason, Stryker has physical, technical and administrative controls in place to protect your Personal Information from unauthorized access, use and disclosure. Stryker evaluates these safeguards on an ongoing basis to help minimize risks from new security threats as they become known.

Rights
In some jurisdictions (including, for example, California, the United Kingdom, Brazil, and European Economic Area), you have the following rights with respect to your Personal Information:

  • Access. You can request that we provide you the specific pieces of Personal Information we collected about you as well as the categories of Personal Information we collected about you, categories of sources for that information, reason why we collected your Personal Information, and categories of third parties to whom we disclose your Personal Information.
  • Correction. You can request that we correct inaccurate information we have about you.
  • Deletion. You can request that we delete information we collected from you. Please be aware that our ability to delete information about you may be limited due to different legal obligations and operational necessities.

We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights regarding your Personal Information. Additionally, if you are an applicant in the United Kingdom or European Economic Area, you may also have the right to object to the processing of your Personal Information or request that we restrict our processing of that information.

If you want to exercise the above rights, please contact us at globalprivacy@stryker.com or 862-229-0023. You, your authorized agent, or another person authorized by law may make a request related to your Personal Information. If you have an agent making a request, we will require (1) the agent to provide proof of authorization and (2) you to confirm that you authorized the agent to act on your behalf.

We can only honor verified requests. Once we receive your request, we will verify your identity by following our internal process for verification, which may require you to provide identifying information—such as your date of birth and last four digits of your Social Security number—or send us an email from your address we have on file.

Updates to Privacy Statement
This Privacy Statement may be amended at any time. If material changes are made in how Personal Information is collected, used, disclosed, or otherwise processed, this Statement will be updated, and notices will be provided when/where appropriate. Any material changes to this Privacy Statement will be effective at the time of our posting of the notice of the update. Where required to do so by law, Stryker may seek your prior consent to any material changes we make to this Privacy Statement.
