We are seeking to hire a Senior Operations Engineer for Stryker's Global Quality and Operations department manufacturing Orthopaedics (joint replacement implant) products in Mahwah, New Jersey.

What you will do

As the Senior Operations Engineer you will support the manufacture of orthopedic implants by performing manufacturing engineering, process improvement, production planning, purchasing, and other technical functions which are necessary for the team to meet customer needs.

As a Senior Operations Engineer within the Operations team you will provide manufacturing engineering leadership and lead multiple complex projects for assigned cells within our Mahwah NJ site.  You will work closely with Quality Assurance, suppliers, Advanced Operations and product development on initiatives that drive toward best practices and support business objectives. 

  • You will work closely with Operations, Engineering Services, and Quality to resolve in-house and supplier quality problems using established problem-solving methodologies.
  • You will actively participate and lead teams to support new product and process design and development activities.
  • You will lead and participate in the development and improvement of the manufacturing process for existing and new products.
  • You will review & approve inspection plans, routers and product drawings.
  • You will facilitate quality remediation, gap closure through partnership with cell Quality Engineers.
  • You will participate in development, review & approval process and equipment validation/qualifications
  • You will review and approve nonconforming material and system documentation.

Additionally you will be responsible to:

  • Ensure proper and continuous operation of the manufacturing equipment and systems.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot vacuum systems, thermal spray equipment, motors, valves, mechanical switches, PLC systems, and software as necessary.
  • Provide technical support for quality control, process improvement, cost savings, process development projects, new product launches, equipment qualifications, and process validations.
  • Make proposals/recommendations in support of the team to help achieve team goals in quality, cost, delivery, safety, and morale.
  • Investigate Quality issues for root cause and recommend/implement document corrective actions.
  • Make proposals/recommendations with regards to Capital equipment purchases, cost reduction opportunities (insourcing/outsourcing), and Supplier/Vendor selection.
  • Periodically lead projects and processes; work with cross-functional teams to get these project completed.
  • Act as the point of contact with regards to new product development projects; participate in new product teams.
  • Evaluate tool quality, perform PFMEA to analyze/determine Root Cause, and ensure Mistake Proofing.
  • Develop and manage project timelines within a cross-functional team.
  • Define & implement specific solutions to technical problems, completing the tasks associated with such projects and writing reports that clearly document the results.
  • Initiate and support NCR's, and CAPA's initiatives.

What you need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required. (Mechanical or Industrial preferred)
  • 2+ years relevant experience required.
  • 3+ years of operations engineering experience in a manufacturing environment highly preferred.
  • Experience and ability to deliver on high profile projects highly preferred.
  • Must be able to define root cause of different manufacturing equipment such as CNC, coating equipment, inspection and packaging equipment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in LEAN and problem-solving tools with a high focus on process improvement such as DMAIC and Value Stream Mapping highly preferred. .
  • Previous working experience using Minitab, Microsoft projects, and Microsoft Excel highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of quality tools such as failure modes effect analysis (FMEA), GD&T, root cause analysis, mistake proofing and Poke-Yoke.
