The Senior Analyst, Market Insights will work as part the marketing and business development core team for Stryker Instruments.  This Senior Analyst will be responsible for managing the evaluation, creation, collection and organization of relevant data sources to support the execution of new product development and M&A activities, as well as downstream marketing business intelligence resources.  This individual will be required to understand user needs related to secondary market data and conduct the necessary data analysis to extract key insights to support the organic and inorganic growth of the Surgical business unit.  Additionally, this individual must be confident in their ability to sort and analyze data using advanced methods and multiple programs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Primary ownership of market data resources to support the Orthopaedic Instruments and Surgical Technologies business units.  These resources include, but are not limited to, procedural volume data, market and competitive intelligence, and pricing data.
  • Evaluate existing data sources to ensure they are fit for purpose and establish new sources as needed based on business needs.
  • Partner with portfolio managers to design and execute research strategies in support of new product development projects.
  • Support business development activities by gathering data, research and intelligence on target products and companies, as well as competitive companies and products.
  • Supports data capture and research diligence with confidential business development opportunities.
  • Act as the knowledge expert in an advisory role to the business on the use and interpretation of market intelligence data. 
  • Perform strategic analysis of primary and secondary market research, market data and financial data to develop industry analyses (e.g. environmental scans, competitive overviews, market share analyses, trends in healthcare payment options, etc.).
  • Support the production of the annual Surgical Factbook and Factbase through the gathering of in-depth competitive intelligence.
  • Craft plans to make routine reporting automated and continually identify ways to innovate in the creation & reporting of market data.  Expertise in PowerBI and Excel reporting tools desirable.
  • Basic understanding and willingness to learn about primary research tools, to support the team in the selection and execution of research methodologies such as pricing strategy research, brand equity audits, conjoint analysis, observational research, voice of the customer, focus groups, and in-depth interviews to develop high impact insights.  
  • Work with third party vendors to review information, services and tool offerings. Participate in product evaluation, identify opportunities for innovation, and compare to existing tools to identify opportunities for cost reduction. Be a primary interface for these relationships, from contracting to implementation to training to ongoing management.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge on internal business intelligence data, including customer/CRM, sales data, etc.
  • Present results with actionable recommendations of analytics to project work teams.
  • Attend research industry functions and training opportunities to bring improvements back to Stryker.
  • Develop organizational capability through systems and training to allow core team members to analyze and sort data from multiple sources.

Education & Special Training:

  • B.A. or B.S. degree required.
  • Master’s degree, such as MBA/MPH preferred.
  • Background in market research, statistics, economics, design research or health sciences required.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in market research, product/brand marketing, user experience, design research, technical product development, or data analysis.
  • Basic proficiency in qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Basic understanding of statistical and strategic planning and marketing analysis concepts.
  • Excellent ability to build cross-functional relationships and work with senior organizational leadership.
  • Ability to transform complex ideas into straightforward presentations.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Must possess excellent working knowledge of Word, Excel, Power Point, Internet and e-mail applications.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Power BI preferred.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with technical Stryker employees and vendors.
  • Must be able to mentor others and provide direction on execution of project related workload.
  • Must be able to teach teammates to use the tools and processes they manage.
  • Must be able to create process for managing business needs related to data requests.
  • Must possess unwavering ethics & integrity in a competitive and demanding work environment.
  • Must be detail oriented and possess conceptual/creative thinking skills.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and establish (and re-establish) priorities for self and team.
