We are currently seeking and Engineering Supervisor to join our Global Quality Operations Division to be based in Kalamazoo, MI.

What you will do

As the Engineering Supervisor, you will direct the development and implementation of activities in production area(s) to meet production goals, quality, and cost objectives.

  • Prioritize production schedules based on product introduction, equipment efficiency, and materials supply.
  • Plans and administers procedures and budgets.
  • Makes budgetary recommendations and at higher levels, controls capital expenditures and direct/indirect labor.
  • Develops schedules and manpower requirements for assigned areas.
  • Provide guidance, such as delegating work assignments to direct employees across first, second and third shifts.

What you need

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Engineering or related engineering discipline required.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in operations or manufacturing preferably in medical device or other highly regulated industry required.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role; preferably in a production environment preferred.
  • Lean/Six Sigma experience preferred; Six Sigma green belt or black belt preferred.
  • Previous system experience with ERP systems required.
  • Project management experience preferred.
  • Excellent organization, planning, presentation and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated history of developing and/or applying standards/best practices.
  • Must be able to generate and explain detailed proposals, guidelines and procedures.
  • Must be able to analyze and resolve non-routine issues using independent judgment.
  • Must be able to routinely make decisions which affect immediate operations and may have company-wide effect.
  • Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must be able to communicate with large groups of people, cross functionally and potentially cross-divisionally.
  • Must be able to review printed materials.
  • Ability to use common office equipment (e.g. calculator, PC, fax machine, etc.).
  • Working knowledge and understanding the overall business process from material receiving to finish goods shipping preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures. 
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public. Must have the ability to communicate and understand technical terminology.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. 
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. 
  • Must have the ability to resolve daily production problems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of budgeting, budget control, cost-containment, overhead, labor, gross-margin, etc. required.
  • Understanding of team dynamics, and ability to maximize organizational results.
  • Self-starter with the ability to accomplish tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication (verbal & written) skills in English.
  • Ability to maintain high morale within a diverse workforce.
  • Demonstrated Strong leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated effective interaction skills across multi-disciplinary functions (lateral & upward/downward).
  • Ability to flex schedule to meet needs of team, which works across three shifts.
