In this role you will:

Report to the Engineering Services Manager, and provide component engineering technical leadership for all R&D activities.  You will plan, coordinate, and execute against project schedules including release to manufacturing. You will define and manage all component activities with internal and external design/manufacturing partners and suppliers.  You will define and execute proactive component risk identification and evaluation from component to system-level. You will identify and mitigate PCBA manufacturing process risks for the component. You will drive root cause analysis and contribute to risk mitigation and reliability improvement efforts.



What You Will Do

  • Be the primary owner of component engineering by participating in the product development process by defining inputs, activities, and outputs for each phase of product development.
  • Provide subject matter expertise for early and comprehensive component risk identification and assessment by working with internal and external design and manufacturing partners/suppliers.
  • Provide component engineering leadership for identifying issues impacting current product lines. Drive timely risk communication to all stakeholders and work with project team in devising, implementing, and qualifying corresponding resolutions.
  • Review and document that components meet design, compliance, and reliability requirements.
  • Review and document the part status (active vs. obsolete; single source vs. multi-source).
  • Review MEP (Manufacturer Equivalent Part) by verifying Part Description, Sourcing Information, Manufacturer Part Number, RoHS, RoHS Policy attributes, etc.
  • Generate all change control documentation in accordance to internal standards.
  • Drive failure analysis for components and associated corrective actions, using internal and external resources across the global supply chain.
  • Develop effective processes and methodologies for component engineering team to influence quality and reliability strategies as applicable.
  • Develop and implement effective reliability tests to identify risks and qualify components.
  • Apply statistical techniques and models to analyze test data and estimate component life cycle performance.
  • Provide effective, thorough, and practical technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems consistent with organizational objectives.
  • Represent the engineering services team in providing solutions to difficult issues.
  • Ability to independently define and carried out tasks with minimal guidance is required.



What You Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related discipline or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years directly related experience


What We Would Love You To Have (preferred)

  • MS in Engineering Discipline with 3+ years’ experience in an engineering discipline, supporting component engineering; or a BS in Engineering with 5+ years will also be considered.
  • Prior engineering experience in the medical device field regarding component engineering, project management, electrical, or mechanical design engineering, supplier quality engineering, process engineering.
  • Understanding of the technology, materials, and failure mechanisms associated with major electronic and electro-mechanical components/materials and associated packaging.
  • Experience in developing specifications for subsystem, and system components.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as JEDEC, IPC, IEC standards.
  • Understanding of Physics-of-Failure (PoF) approach and its practical applications in both analytical and empirical assessment of product reliability risks.
  • Ability to apply DFSS methodologies, including but not limited to FMEA/FTA, thermal analysis, DOE, construction analysis, and other risk evaluation approaches. 
  • Familiarity with using acceleration models for common failure modes in electronic products to estimate field failure rates.
  • Experience in supplier selection and assessment.  Experience working with OEM, ODM and CM partners.
  • Ability to drive component reliability qualification for parts/processes that are critical and strategic to product requirements.
  • Understanding of the impact of manufacturing processes on component reliability.
  • Ability to interact with a cross-functional team (electrical, mechanical, and operations) and external partners and suppliers to define and implement reliability activities, including qualification testing, failure analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Understanding of the balance of quality/reliability assurance vs. time to market, performance requirements, return on investment, and the needs to assure compliance to organizational procedures.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Able to influence and coach relevant parties on both the strategic, and tactical levels.
