Senior Additive Design Engineer

Location: Stryker Anngrove, Cork

Position Summary:

The Senior Additive Design Engineer is a key member of the Additive Technology team, focused on developing additive-enabled designs along with divisional R&D and Advanced Operations counterparts. The Design Engineer will be an embedded member of the divisional product development teams and work hand-in-hand on design concepts that lead to new products to be launched from the Additive New Product Introduction team.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Collaborate with divisional R&D and AO to understand product requirements and use additive design methodologies to improve performance of new and existing products.
  • Provide engineering support for new product and process introductions, ensuring that all activities are completed and documented in accordance with the Stryker new product development procedures.
  • Ensure quality of process and product as defined in the appropriate operation and material specifications.
  • Direct and manage the workflow of engineers within the scope of assigned projects.
  • Manage product development through the design controls process.
  • Work with Program Managers and oversee technical teams to ensure project plans adhere to agreed upon timelines and are within the scope of process guidelines.
  • Lead and participate on cross-functional design teams to develop new product, address design issues, and maintain existing designs.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key design consulting groups in order to recognize and anticipate industry trends and user needs.
  • Mentor other engineers in project management best practices and industry trends
  • Complete capability studies for in process inspection and generate subsequent Inspection documentation.

Qualifications:

  • B.S in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline with 2 or more years of experience

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong CAD software knowledge (Pro-E, Solidworks, CATIA, etc.) and proven track record of creating innovative designs.
  • Passion for additive manufacturing and understanding of the potential that additive manufacturing has to revolutionize product design.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated efficient work methods, analytical & problem solving skills and ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment.
  • The individual should enjoy working in a fast paced, dynamic and results orientated team environment.
  • Excellent Interpersonal Skills - able to express ideas and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Innovative thinker - should be able to envisage new and better ways of doing things.
  • Excellent analytical skills, ability to plan, organize and implement concurrent tasks.
  • Good knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, product and process design.
  • Must be able to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and have a good understanding of geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • High level of PC Skills required.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of product development experience in the medical device industry or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex product development initiatives from concept through release.
  • Potential to join divisional R&D teams depending on organizational demands.
