Job Description: The Portfolio Manager is a departmental resource that proactively delivers market insights, portfolio management and execution of key marketing deliverables to optimize the franchise and division long-term objectives.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop Market Insights (Competitive / Market Analysis)
    • Develop deep insights on market data in existing and adjacent markets to understand our current position and developing threats.  This includes tracking of market data and internal receipts data and communicating findings and recommendations.
    • Track and forecast product lifecycles for use in forecasting competitive trends as needed
    • Manage and grow relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), Advisory Panels and other pertinent VOC opportunities to support the business. Key objectives for VOC include identifying and quantifying new product opportunities based on emerging trends and procedures, collecting input on new product development initiatives, and accelerating market evaluation testing and clinical study activities.
    • Lead Trade Show attendance and conventions as necessary to obtain market intelligence.
  • Strategic Mid and Long Term Planning (including Pipeline Prioritization)
    • Leverage market intelligence data and analytics to drive the decision-making process regarding products and services, targeting, and effectiveness of strategies and initiatives
    • Develop and gain acceptance of the current and future state product portfolio.  Champion well-supported recommendations for the prioritization and sequencing of the current and future product pipeline considering accepted strategic direction and product gap concerns.  Ensure that the right opportunities are next in line for internal or external development.  Lead communication plan to internal and external customers to align on the pipeline and strategy rationale.
    • Develop, present and finalize mid-term and long term strategic plan recommendations leveraging all available market, organizational and product insight.
  • Proactive Opportunity Identification (including Analysis and Presentation)
    • Continuously identify new opportunities and test effectiveness of current pipeline direction by creating strong business cases for new product opportunities.
    • Create and deliver presentations that focus on key strategies, tactics, deliverables and financial projections.
  • Execution of Key Marketing Deliverables for NPD / BD Projects
    • Collaborate with internal partners to optimize the market input process for new product development.
    • Identify and document marketing specifications to support new product development and commercialization. This includes collecting and summarizing voice of customer inputs on key performance criteria, intended use, indications for use, competitive products and positioning, and market and sales opportunity.
    • Champion efforts (working with relevant product managers, R&D, BD, field personnel) for market evaluation.  This includes identification and recruitment of physicians, scheduling and execution of evaluation cases, and reporting back to product team and senior management with “go-to-market” recommendations.
    • Primary marketing and market intelligence contact for product development engineers and leadership team on assigned projects.
    • Primary responsibility for representing marketing/customer on new product development teams (serve as the voice of the customer) to support the business. This includes regular in-person attendance at core team meetings and active participation that adds value and delivers marketing strategy that guides team decisions.
    • While working collaboratively with downstream product management, ensure successful transfer of marketing deliverables required for successful commercialization and post market surveillance. 
  • May train others in marketing, product development or related topics.
  • May direct and/or evaluate the activities of one or more junior-level marketing personnel.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA in Marketing, Business or BA/BS in other area with related experience
  • MBA and strong financial acumen preferred
  • Minimum of 6-10 years of experience (medical device preferred)
  • Global experience or exposure is preferred
  • Previous marketing and strategy development experience strongly preferred
  • Sales or customer facing exposure in related medical device area preferred
  • Product development experience in related medical device area preferred
