Job Description: The portfolio manager role is a key strategic leader within one of Stryker’s fastest growing businesses, Sports Medicine. This person will partner with downstream marketing, R&D and our sales force to lead the future direction of the portfolio.  This person will be focused on selecting and defining the direction of new product development and evaluating BD opportunities within the sector to drive our business forward and create innovation in leading the advancement of Sports Medicine within the healthcare industry.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Understand the Market:

  • Analyzes competitive position of company products and recommends or supervises new product ventures to create competitive advantages.
  • Confirm market assumptions regarding competitive products and market conditions with our sales channel and KOLs.
  • Build key KOL relationships to provide product feedback and help gather market data.
  • Understand and dissect competitive product landscape to determine opportunities of investment.
  • Follow market trends and understand new technologies with how they relate to our products.
  • Reports to Senior Leadership on market trends and business needs in various forums including PIB, Monthly and Quarterly Reviews
  • Monitors sales & marketing trends and makes recommendations for enhancing penetration & share growth
  • Collaborates with customers, marketing intelligence and third-party sources to monitor, understand and respond to competitive product performance, branding, messaging, and tactics

Build the Pipeline:

  • Prioritize projects based on resources, financials and market potential.
  • Must develop hands on cadaveric product evaluation skills.
  • Originates new ideas for products and works with R&D to develop concepts for future products.
  • Assume leadership role in partnership with the R&D team to help guide project with market driven insight.
  • Partner with finance and sales to build accurate projections based on market data and growth expectations
  • Effectively present strategic direction and investment recommendations to leadership team regarding new product development plans.

Lead and Execute:

  • May coach, develop and train marketing team members
  • Lead team to align work to critical business results and initiatives
  • Effectively communicate new product details and strategic benefits to sales channel during sales meetings and over other media formats.
  • Effectively manages key vendor, surgeon and sales force relationships and work activity
  • Demonstrate emotional intelligence and ability to collaborate with R&D, Quality, regulatory, our sales force and consultants to ensure project and portfolio success.

Physical Requirements

  • Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to communicate with large groups of people.
  • Must be able to use common office equipment (e.g. Microsoft office suite, etc)
  • Must be able to travel up to 50% annually

Mental Requirements

  • Must be able to generate and explain detailed forecasts, guidelines and procedures
  • Must be able to analyze and resolve non-routine product issues using independent judgment
  • Must be able to routinely make decisions which may affect immediate product line operations and have a divisional effect

Qualifications/Work Experience Preferred

  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in marketing, sales, or R&D within medical, pharmaceutical, or other relevant industry
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated effective managerial skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Fundamental Computer Skills
  • Previous experience in Sales/Marketing
  • Extensive field sales training or sales experience

Work From Home: No

Travel Percentage: 50%
