WHAT YOU WILL DO:

The Director, Corporate Sustainability will provide dynamic and innovative leadership to build and lead the strategy for Sustainability within the Global Quality and Operations group at Stryker. This person should have a successful track-record of achievement, strong leadership, and business acumen to be able to work with senior leaders throughout the company. Having a substantial record as a thought leader in sustainability is essential to be able to lead effectively. This person will provide strategic direction and lead the execution of sustainability strategies across business areas, creating value through achievement of environmental, social and governance outcomes that align with our sustainability framework.  In this fast-paced environment, this person will establish and lead a Sustainability Council comprised of representatives from regions across the manufacturing network. Strong influencing skills along with a broad knowledge of ESG will engage colleagues in this important work to build an awareness and culture of sustainability throughout Stryker.

  • Develop and oversee a corporate sustainability performance scorecard that measures Stryker’s key economic, environmental and social impacts in support of the Board and leaders’ vision to position Stryker as a sustainable company

  • Track progress on integrating responsible practices into core business operations and identify opportunities for product innovation and revenue growth
  • Provide actionable information and direction that assists in measuring and maximizing the impact of our programs
  • Develop a deep understanding of each business team’s responsible business goals and work collaboratively to oversee scorecard and metrics creation, target setting, and results reporting
  • Work closely with internal cross-functional partners in researching sustainability issues, trends, concerns, or stakeholder interests related to environmental and business compliance and provides inputs to sustainability reports, presentations, or proposals for stakeholders, employees, media, government, community partners, or other groups, as required; makes policy recommendations
  • Partners with internal teams to respond to enterprise RFPs, inquiries from socially responsible investors and relevant ratings organizations (e.g. CDP), highlighting Stryker’s focus on responsible business practices and generating growth through shared value solutions
  • Direct the work of a third-party consultants that maintain an environmental measurement model for Stryker that quantifies the carbon reduction value of the operational efficiencies
  • Collect results data from business teams and partners and perform independent, unbiased analysis of the results
  • Integrate department-specific scorecard data into master scorecards for review by executive committees
  • Provide business teams with objective feedback on the strengths and opportunities for improvement associated with their initiatives
  • Continuously research and evaluate evolving corporate responsibility metrics best practices and apply relevant learning to improve our ability to measure the impact of our programs
  • Confidently and comfortably facilitate dialogue with the senior corporate executives and department leaders

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience related to sustainability/corporate governance/ESG
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Advanced degree desired such as MBA preferable
  • Knowledge of socially responsible or impact investing within global capital markets
  • Deep understanding of current trends in ESG and sustainable investing
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in corporate sustainability with a large organization
  • Strong project management experience
  • Articulate and effective communicator in both writing and presentation
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and prioritize tasks accordingly
  • Previous internal or external leadership positions in the sustainability/corporate governance/ESG industry
  • Previous experience with the application of third party ESG or other risk research and data would be advantageous
  • Willingness to travel up to 40%
