What You Will Do
Mechanical Engineering Co-op’s on our Endoscopy R&D team will work with cross-functional teams to identify the needs and the goals of future surgical visualization products. They research new technologies, customer expectations, business requirements and regulations. They may work with a variety of tools, including CAD, FEA, and our Test Labs to develop new product concepts. Co-ops will utilize their technical education to design new products and drive them from concept to production.
- Develop and analyze mechanical design solutions to assess feasibility and acceptability.
- Design and build prototype devices and design concepts to solve engineering problems or user needs.
- Use rapid prototyping methods to quickly generate design concepts.
- Executes experimental testing on design concepts and performs benchmark analysis.
- Develop test methods, designs test fixtures and jigs, and executes experimental testing on design concepts and perform benchmark analysis.
- Execute detailed engineering analysis including tolerance analysis.
- Communicate design progress through technical presentations and design reviews.
- Translate design inputs to engineering specifications and acceptance criteria.
- Identify component and manufacturing vendors and liaison in support of development.
- Create test protocols, conducting tests and generating test reports.
- Work with cross-functional teams Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing and Project Management to ensure project success.
- Release Engineering Change Orders (ECO’s) of Device Master Record (DMR) documents into our Agile Product Lifecycle Management software.
- Follow R&D procedures like design controls and risk management, per the Quality Management System.
- Demonstrate ownership and prioritize work with minimal supervision.
What You Need
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree; Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering
- Cumulative 3.0 GPA or above
- Working knowledge and understanding of mechanical engineering practices and design principles.
- Demonstrated experience with 3D CAD (PTC Creo, Solidworks)
- Technical ability to create engineering drawings
- Fabrication / Machining / Rapid Prototyping experience
- Medical device product development and QMS experience
