Job Description

Stryker presents a rare and exciting opportunity to join a highly motivated team in developing key technology to enable the evolution of new surgical techniques in Neurosurgery and ENT. The successful candidate will work with a multi-disciplined team at our Innovation Centre in Cork and focus on establishing the needs of our customers while designing and bringing innovative solutions for neurosurgical applications to market. The Innovation Centre, which features unique design and collaboration workspaces, state-of-the-art prototyping and test facilities, and a simulated operating room, is the first of its kind in Ireland. The centre focuses on the development of new technologies and products to improve patient safety and outcomes during surgery, and increase operating room efficiency across multiple surgical specialties including neuro, spine, ENT and orthopaedic surgery.

Position Summary

Leads the packaging development process of new product packaging for new medical devices, gathering the Package Design requirements from both our Internal and External Customer through VOC (Voice of Customer). This information is then taken and used to develop and deliver a high quality, cost effective and compliant Medical Device Package Solution.

Key Areas of Responsibility

•    Main interface between Product Development / Product Marketing Teams / External Customers and the Global Packaging Solutions Group.
•    Gather both internal and external VOC (Voice of Customer) requirements for the specific Product / Package launch and develop the initial Pack Solution concepts alongside the Packaging Solutions Launch Group.
•    Completion of Packaging Design requirements documentation for each specific Product 
•    Develop initial Project timelines.
•    Lead development and verification testing for new designs
•    Expected to lead and provide strategic direction and support to the group.
•    Provide strategic direction in Packaging design for new product development and new process efforts.  Assist in the establishment of priorities, imparting a sense of urgency and importance to effective project management and delivery of new products to the market on time and within the right cost structure.
•    Prepare and present status reports, as required to varying audiences and forums. 
•    Develop the existing portfolio in terms of new packaging designs, new technologies and new materials where applicable.
•    Work with the Intellectual Property team to ensure new designs are assessed and protected appropriately
•    Provide mentoring where applicable to the other members of the team
•    Ensure awareness of regulatory and compliance requirements such as ISO 11607 during the Package development phase.
•    All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills

•    Degree or Higher in Engineering, Science or Business discipline is essential.
•    4 years minimum in a Packaging design role, greater experience in other roles will also be considered.
•    Excellent presentation and communication skills are essential. Individuals must possess the ability to present and represent at senior levels both inside and outside the organization.
•    The individual must be a strategic thinker and should enjoy working in dynamic and results focused global team environment.
•    Self starter with demonstrated efficient work methods, analytical & problem solving skills and ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment.
•    PC literate and strong knowledge Microsoft Office tools are essential.
