Specific responsibilities of the Customs Manufacturing Technician include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Work closely with team members, engineers, managers, project planners & vendors to meet team goals
  • Facilitate weekly team meetings with technicians including project prioritization, managing priorities according to R&D priority lists, and discuss open issues
  • Review on a monthly basis the team metrics with team members
  • Communicate project status with team members and engineers on a daily basis
  • Meet with managers to provide project status and discuss open topics
  • Mentor new technicians and/or set up mentors for technicians when required
  • Create and manage cross-training schedules for technicians
  • Provide technical support for team members on CNC equipment
  • Utilize Master Cam or equivalent for CNC Programming, set- up and operate all CNC equipment (Lathe, Mill, Wire, RAM EDM)
  • Hand Finishing & Laser Marking
  • Operate and maintain all manual machinery (Lathes, Bridgeport, Grinding, Saws)
  • Operate, utilize & understand inspection tools, including GD&T
  • Assist in development of process improvements
  • Meet with engineers in early stages of project planning

Job Requirements

A minimum of a High School Diploma is required; relevant vocational or trade school training and/or apprenticeship program is highly preferred. A minimum of 5 years of experience in a machining or tool & die making role and the ability to operate 3-5 axis CNC equipment is required.

Ideal candidates will also possess the following skills/experience:
  • 5+ years of advanced CNC programming experience highly preferred; basic CNC programming experience is required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Orthopedic products is highly preferred, experience with custom products preferred
  • Proficient in Basic ProE (or similar) usage, 2+ years of 3D programming experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Product inspection experience in a GMP manufacturing environment preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise in manual machining of intricate components
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work successfully in a team-based environment that heavily emphasizes quality, performance, cross training, customer service, and accountability
  • Experience collaborating with engineering teams and providing feedback and making recommendations to help achieve team goals in quality, cost and delivery
  • Self-motivated and driven, demonstrating the ability to manage and deliver projects while adhering to strict timelines
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills including continuous improvement and lean methodologies
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Access, Word and Outlook; proficient with Oracle requisitions
  • Ability to work weekday and weekend overtime hours as required to meet the demands of the team/business
