Job Description

A self-motivated Engineering Co-Op Student to work alongside the Systems, Product Definition and UX team in support of continuing improvements to our existing devices as well as the development of innovative new products.  The job will be a mix of design, testing and technical writing. 

Stryker is preferentially looking for 3 month co-op terms and candidates in their 3rd or 4th year engineering programs.

Specific Activities:

  • To create documentation in support of the engineering change control process.
  • To create documentation as required as part of the Design and Development process.
  • To oversee and run verification tests that might be currently occupying more senior engineering resources.


While working with a team of engineers and under the supervision of a senior engineer, the co-op will be expected to engage on some of the following types of activities:

  • Participate in front-end conceptual design and engineering activities on new products.
  • Opto- mechanical and mechanical component design.
  • Mechanical and electro-mechanical component specification.
  • Undertaking testing and analysis in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives including the development of new requirement-specifications.
  • The design of test setups and testing conditions to investigate options for improving device performance.
  • Product and component testing, including support for certification per UL, CE, RoHS and other standards.
  • Provide assistance in the design of R&D jigs and fixtures.
  • Participate in product design reviews, failure mode analyses, team work prioritization.
  • Assessment of design failure modes of upcoming or market released products.

  • Enrolled in an engineering program – preferably 3rd or 4th year
  • Available for an 8 month co-op term
  • Experience in 3D CAD modelling software – preferably Solidworks
  • Basic knowledge of machining processes, including turning, milling, and sheet metalwork.
  • Basic knowledge of material characteristics and selection.
  • Self-managed, self-motivated, hands-on problem-solving.
  • Fluent with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
