Job Description


  • Will aid in the new product development process by identifying and recommending effective and efficient SW solutions for medical device applications.
  • Develop, implement and test software for:
    • “bare-metal” systems (no OS support) including low-level MCU/peripheral drivers, middleware, and embedded application development.
    • Control systems using a RTOS
    • Embedded Linux systems, including drivers, middleware, and application software
    • PC applications for interfacing with embedded devices
  • Occasionally debug hardware using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other hardware tools
  • May coordinate with vendors, engineers and/or other employees to resolve system issues.
  • May design, build and/or recommend purchase of fixtures, equipment, PCB components, and tools to ensure quality and costs is kept within guidelines.
  • Will submit periodic reports on assigned topics to supervisor.

Physical Requirements

  • Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must have the ability to work with and assemble small objects and component parts.
  • Ability to operate common office equipment (e.g. calculator, PC, telephone, etc.).
  • Must have good visual acuity and demonstrate fine motor skills.

Mental Requirements

  • Must be able to observe and correct minute inconsistencies (e.g. in the printed word, product appearance, etc.).
  • Must be able to understand and follow detailed instructions and inspection procedures.
  • Must be able to complete detailed and complex documentation accurately.

Qualifications/Work Experience Preferred

  • Elementary programming skills in C/C++/java or a similar language
  • Exposure to object-oriented design
  • Elementary knowledge of electric circuits (resistors, capacitors, inductors, diodes)
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate small hand tools (e.g. pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, hammer, etc.), power tools and test/inspection equipment.
  • 0-2 years of experience.

Education/Special Training Required

  • Pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering at Kettering University.
