Job Description

As an individual contributor, the Strategic Planning & Business Performance Manager will be responsible for the management and continuous improvement of the Stryker Neurovascular Strategic Plan and related processes (5-year Strategic Plan, Innovation Growth Council (IGC), product portfolio strategy, functional excellence strategy, annual StratMap and related strategic initiatives). This individual will work closely with key stakeholders both in the creation of the inputs needed to derive the Division’s strategy and in the decision making process. S/he will identify and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) for the division that will help define strategic initiatives and support future growth.

Strategic Planning process

  • Schedule, plan and moderate monthly portfolio planning meetings.
  • Record and communicate results of portfolio planning process discussions to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and divisional management.
  • Incorporate results of portfolio planning process into annual corporate Strategic Plan submission.
  • Partner with project management to transition investment portfolio into chartered projects.
  • Partner with finance to incorporate investment portfolio into annual Operating Plan submission.
  • Train others in modeling tools and approaches.
  • Coach franchise/functional owners in modeling of internal investment opportunities.
  • Lead franchise/functional owners  in collaboration meetings to ensure calibration and alignment of investment models across the portfolio.
  • Partner with market intelligence to ensure that current and consistent market estimates are incorporated into all business models.
  • Define the functional excellence strategic plan framework. Facilitate workshops and help teams to assemble the functional 5-year strategic plan.
  • Develop close, collaborative working relationships with  divisional counterparts across Stryker to share best practices.
  • Coach and train team members in business planning and strategic planning practices.
  • Support development and continuous improvement of overall business strategy and processes with coordination of other key functions (e.g., Finance) and other members of the business and corporate functions.

Business analysis and KPIs

  • Monitor, research, and analyze the business environment. Provide data, analysis, and recommendations based on key business drivers.
  • Prepare relevant analysis for ELT reviews based on key strategic insights.
  • Identify key strategic insights and perform relevant analysis to support annual strategic initiatives.
  • Identify Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the division in alignment with global and regional needs.
  • Collect, analyze and present internal metrics of different departments to analyze business performance and forecast future performance.
  • Work cross-functionally with key partners to build and design models to solve business problems and derive key business insights from disparate data sets.
  • Create and deliver monthly, quarterly and annual business reviews.

Education and Special Trainings

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required.
  • Master’s Degree (Business, Finance, Marketing, Science, Engineering, management or related field) Required.
  • Master of Business Administration preferred.
  • Experience in medical devices and/or healthcare industry preferred.
  • Portfolio Management Professional (PFMP) certification preferred.

Qualifications and experience:

  • 5 to 10 years experience in one or more of the following: Business or Finance, strategic development & planning, and/or marketing.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategic concepts derived from synthesizing multiple data analytics, and making appropriate business recommendations.
  • Extensive experience in collection, analysis, and synthesis of data and research into insights used to inform strategic decisions through creating presentations to communicating complex data simply.
  • Strong strategic, analytical, and communication skills, with ability to influence others.
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills and comfort leading large and small groups.
  • Hands-on proficiency with spreadsheets, Excel macros, and the potential to use advanced decision support analytical tools (e.g., proprietary decision analysis software, Tableau Visualization, Microsoft Power BI).
