Job Description

As a member of the Stryker Orthopaedics Robotics R&D Team, the Staff R&D Systems Engineer will work in close collaboration with the engineering development teams in mechanical, electrical, software, and human factors disciplines. This person will be responsible for leading the development and coordination of Module and Sub-System Level Requirements that flow from higher level Customer and System Requirements. Additionally, the Systems Engineer will support system design, integration, design reviews, verification and validation of multidisciplinary systems, technologies and feasibility efforts including robotic systems, embedded software, electronics, mechanisms, cutting systems and surgical navigation systems to deliver robotic-assisted orthopaedic solutions. Furthermore, he/she will support the continuous improvement of Stryker product development tools and processes. Successful candidates must have broad skill sets, must be self-driven, and be very strong in Quality System deliverables.

Information:

•       Independently implement and lead requirements development and documentation with a strong understanding of the decomposition of requirements, translation rationale and acceptance criteria generation.

•       Independently implement and lead risk management methodologies for complex electro-mechanical systems: identifying hazards, hazardous situations, calculating failure rates, and documenting risk mitigation within the design.

•       Track design issues with respect to requirements and risk management deliverables. 

•       Independently integrate and administer development tools that require validation.

•       Support maintenance and improvement of engineering methods and practices

•       Support training and mentoring activities regarding established engineering best practices, design principles, processes, and tools

•       Work with core team to determine project schedules and time commitments of self and other functional project team members and be able to clearly communicate status of assignments to project management.

•       Represent R&D in cross functional programs, provide direction and observations on internal customer objectives as they involve R&D

Minimum Qualifications:

•       BS in Engineering or related field

•       Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in a highly regulated product development environment preferred

•       Experience in Risk Management methods such as Functional Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA).

•       Experience in formal Requirements development and flow-down in an electro-mechanical systems context.

•       Experience leading formal Design Control deliverables: Requirement, Risk Management, Verification Planning
