Are you passionate about new surgical robotic platform and working with a dynamic and diverse research team to make a difference? If you are, we need you. We are seeking a staff mechanical research engineer to join the advanced technology research and concept development team in robotics division at Stryker. The staff mechanical research engineer will work with a group of talented and dedicated research engineers to develop next generation surgical robot platforms and smart end-effectors. The staff mechanical engineer will contribute broadly to the concept development team and will support strategic long term product roadmap by developing new concept of actuators, robotic arm. Successful candidates must excel in high-energy, focused, small-team environment, be able to initiate and drive new research directions and have broad research skill sets including communication, problem-solving, observation and self-motivation.

As a mechanical design engineer – Surgical Robotics, you will

  • Continuously explore new actuator technologies to enable designing future intelligent surgical robotic system
  • Work closely with advanced concept development team to prototype and evaluate new surgical robotic arm
  • Generate and present new design concept of custom surgical robots, smart end-effectors, and other electro-mechanical subsystems
  • Perform design reviews to team members

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum of 4 years experience in electro-mechanical , precision mechanism, and robotic actuator design
  • Great attitude, eager, willing/able to take initiative, work together with others in team environment
  • 3D CAD proficiency, SolidWorks preferred
  • Proven ability to integrate electronic sensors, motors, and motion control components to perform mechatronic tasks.
  • Experience designing robotic mechanisms and electromechanical actuators (including brushless motor design/selection/sizing, position and torque sensing, gear train design, and performance analysis)
  • Current knowledge of state-of-the-art academic and industrial robotic arms, actuators, and end-effectors
  • Experience in all phases of the engineering design process (including concept brainstorming, requirements definition, prototyping, detailed design, analysis, manufacturing, assembly, and validation)
  • A passion to change the future of surgery
  • Demonstrated experience with early stage product development
