What you will do

As a Staff Mechanical Engineer, you will work closely with Quality Assurance, suppliers, Advanced Operations, Product Development and other cross-functional teams on initiatives that drive toward best practices and support business objectives in our Ft. Lauderdale, FL manufacturing plant.

You will provide manufacturing engineering leadership, mentoring and the ability to head up multiple complex projects within manufacturing operations.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Develop and manage project timelines within a cross-functional team; effectively communicate project status with all team members, customers and leadership as necessary
  • Define & implement specific solutions to technical problems, completing the tasks associated with such projects and writing reports that clearly document the results
  • Work closely with Operations, Engineering Services, and Quality to resolve new technology transfer quality problems using established problem solving methodologies
  • Participate and lead teams to support new product and process design and development activities
  • Lead and participate in the development and improvement of the manufacturing process for existing and new products
  • Review & approve inspection plans, routers and product drawings
  • Facilitate quality remediation, gap closure through partnership with cell Quality Engineer
  • Participate in development, review & approval process and equipment validation/qualifications
  • Interface with suppliers for new/existing processes, quality issues and process improvements for assigned projects
  • Review and approve nonconforming material and system documentation
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives

What you need

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical or Systems Engineering preferred) AND a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in a manufacturing environment is required
  • Experience working in a highly regulated industry (e.g.: aerospace, automotive, medical device, etc.) is highly preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge in various CAD/CAM systems (preferably Pro E)
  • Demonstrated ability to create detailed drawings for fixture/tooling designs and/or the ability to work with designers and drafters to create fixture/tooling designs
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints, tolerances, and GD&T
  • Demonstrated analytical skills with problem solving and process improvement orientation; knowledge of Lean tools (i.e.: Six Sigma)
  • Demonstrated communication (written & verbal), presentation, partnership and influencing skills
  • Proven ability to effectively work in a fast paced, dynamic and results oriented team environment
  • Working knowledge of quality tools such as failure modes effect analysis (FMEA), GD&T, root cause analysis, mistake proofing and Poke-Yoke
  • Demonstrated understanding of overall equipment effectives and preventative maintenance programs
  • Good understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), related statistical tools and validation/verification techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, provide leadership within a cross-functional project team and mentor more junior engineers
