What You Will Do

You will lead objective, data driven feasibility assessments of new products opportunities in alignment with key stakeholders to assess their potential fit in the New Product Development pipeline. 

You will then build efficient Feasibility Assessment Plans which drive accountable progress toward meaningful assessment of assigned concepts and write clear comprehensive reports that communicate the assessment findings.

  • Clinical Understanding
    • Leverage a strong understanding of clinical orthopaedic practice derived from previous surgeon interaction, product development and operating room observation to build feasibility assessment plans along the most relevant directions.
    • Make deliberate efforts to grow your clinical knowledge base to better understand new product concepts and the procedures against which they might compete.
  • Collaboration
    • Enlist the guidance of established subject matter experts so that their knowledge and experience can be leveraged to better understand the value of promising product concepts.
    • Collaborate with cross functional team members to build robust feasibility assessment plans and work with those team members to drive accountable completion of those plans.
  • Surgeon Engagement
    • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with orthopaedic surgeons to solicit ideas for new product opportunities. 
    • Interact comfortably and professionally with orthopaedic surgeons to gain insight into the driving clinical needs and practical limitations associated with promising opportunities.
    • Manage surgeon expectations to align with achievable capabilities.  Maintain a pattern of integrity associated with doing what you say you will do.
  • Financial Assessment
    • In collaboration with Marketing and Finance, use existing financial model templates to estimate the potential financial return on proposed concepts based on data driven assumptions and an understanding of the market. 
  • Regulatory
    • Leverage a strong understanding of regulatory requirements to anticipate potential challenges to product concepts passing through US and international regulatory bodies. 
  • Communication
    • Negotiate terms of mutual success with surgeons and colleagues throughout the organization by leveraging demonstrated sills in communication, collaboration and stakeholder management. 
    • Leverage strong presentation skills to present to senior management on the status of ongoing feasibility investigations.
    • Leverage strong communication skills to drive cross functional engagement in planning and execution of feasibility assessments.

What You Need

  • 5+ years of product development related experience in orthopaedics or the medical device industry.
  • Expertise in the function, clinical issues and performance requirements of orthopedic implants.
  • Expertise in design controls and risk management within a regulated industry.
  • Expertise with a parametric CAD design package.  Prefer Pro/Engineer. 
  • Demonstrated understanding of common design verification and validation practices
  • Demonstrated understanding of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and its application.
