Job Description

The engineer is responsible for development and maintenance of the Linux O.S. distribution for Stryker Robotics’ medical devices.

  • Works with colleagues to develop requirements and implement solutions for timely delivery of a secure and robust Linux O.S. implementation running on multiple platforms
  • Works with colleagues in software engineering to implement library and other support required by the clinical application software
  • Works with colleagues to develop and maintain installers for the O.S. and application software
  • Monitors O.S. and library vulnerabilities and provides analysis to determine if the product is affected
  • Produces O.S. patches to implement fixes for vulnerabilities
  • Performs testing of the O.S. distribution
  • Provides required documentation according to Stryker design rules
  • Keeps up to date on Linux development and knowledge of industry best practices
  • Applies Stryker processes and industry standards
  • Supports the evaluation of technologies for inclusion in the O.S. distribution
  • Independently integrates and administers development tools, including required validation
  • Designs and implements solutions to address identified problem
  • Represents R&D in cross functional programs and provides direction and observations on internal customer objectives as they involve R&D

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • Five years professional experience with Linux development and administration
  • Expert knowledge of common Linux packaging mechanisms, such as deb or rpm
  • Scripting experience using bash and a common scripting language, such as Python, for task automation and for software installation
  • Expert knowledge of computer networking using Linux
  • Expert knowledge of common O.S. and application security vulnerabilities and related analysis and testing best practices
  • Experience with common software development tools, such as compilers, interpreters, debuggers, source code repository, defect tracking, etc.
  • LPI, RHCE, or other standard certification preferred
  • Experience with embedded Linux using Buildroot or Yocto is a plus
  • Previous experience working with medical devices in a regulated environment is a plus
