The jobs mission:

Develop, configure, test, implement robotic technologies and systems to improve efficiencies. Analyse and evaluate prototypes and systems and be involved in ongoing support of the systems.

Main tasks:

As a Staff Engineer, Clinical Application Support, for our MAKO robots in Europe you will be:

  • Responsible for maintaining clinical and technical expertise for all MAKO robotic products.
  • Providing both verbal and written, clinical or application support to MAKOPlasty specialists, Field Service Engineers, Clinical Training, Sales personnel & Distributors.
  • The primary point of contact for MPS emergency support directly from live clinical cases.
  • Provide support and expertise in service department development projects.
  • Maintain all Clinical Support tools and machinery per required guidelines.
  • Identify, define and drive development of new tools, processes and procedures required to support new and current product demonstration.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for support of MAKO products.
  • Perform Segmentation and implant planning troubleshooting and training upon request.
  • Responds immediately to Clinical/Application questions and inquiries from Field Service Engineers (FSEs), Customer Service Representatives (CSR), all Sales personnel and Distributors via telephone, fax, email, and on-site at customer locations.
  • Maintains accurate records of all support related activity in the Robotics Technical Service support ticketing system.
  • Assists with root cause investigations as requested by Department Management.
  • Participates in exploratory testing and other engineering verification and validation activities to familiarize with new products and provide input on product improvements, serviceability, and potential customer support occurrences.
  • Drafts and distributes Customer Support Bulletins to the field on relevant topics.
  • Develops, tests and implements tools or programs connected with segmentation support.
  • Supports the company’s remote site visit initiative by maintaining equipment, providing technical support and attending Far/Near End sites as necessary.
  • Maintains Clinical Application Support documentation and handles Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) as required.
  • Uses knowledge of Linux based RIO applications to trouble shoot application issues.
  • Disseminates issues and potential trends requiring investigation by internal resources.
  • Performs other duties, as needed, to assist Department Management.


  • Have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical engineering or another Engineering discipline
  • Have 4+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Have previous experience with CAD design tool (i.e. SolidWorks) preferred.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of technical proficiency, excellent problem solving skills, and analytic ability.
  • Are able to work independently with no direct manager onsite.
  • Demonstrate excellent computer skills (strong understanding of Microsoft Office, Robotics and navigation experience preferred).
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Must remain calm under pressure with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrable presentation skills preferred.
  • Maintain the highest level of MPS certification in all current MAKO applications (THA, TKA, PKA, etc.).
  • Maintain tier 1 field service engineer (FSE) training.
  • Maintain Segmentation Specialist certification for all available applications.
