Job Description

  • Determines the Country of Origin of new and transfer Stryker products as per Global Trade policy. 
  • Drives key stakeholders to obtain relevant product information supporting Country of Origin determination by the requested return dates.
  • Communicates with internal and external legal counsel to seek guidance and interpretation of the relevant product information leading to the Country of Origin determination.
  • Executes specific practices to accurately support the Country of Origin determination based on the US Trade Agreements Act for Stryker products sold to the US Government.
  • Documents rationale and evidence to support Country of Origin determinations for document retention. 
  • Responsible for managing the data quality of COO determinations in the data repository and adjacent systems. 
  • Develops tools and optimizes processes to streamline Country of Origin determinations for all new products and transfers.
  • Supports preferential Country of Origin determination, where required.  
  • Partners with the Director of Global Trade Management and the Sr. Director to continually assess the Country of Origin determination process and recommends appropriate operational improvements.
  • Supervises contractors who have responsibility for interacting with suppliers to obtain certificates of origin, creating reports, and maintaining databases.
  • Responsible for continual improvement within the program, proactively improving processes, forms, databases and data quality.
  • Maintains a general educational awareness of governmental regulations and laws that affect the Stryker business relevant to Country of Origin.

  • Technical Knowledge:  Knowledge of the technical and regulatory aspects of Country of Origin to support conducting accurate assessments and to arrive at proper determinations.  Understanding of reasonable care, as defined by the customs regulations and best practices necessary to meet the standard.
  • Project Management:  Experience with general project management best practices and the ability to use organizational strategies to drive a process.
  • Delegation and Supervision Skills:  Experience supervising contractors and delegating work to contractors and third parties.
  • Quality Management: Knowledge of quality management methods, tools, and techniques and the ability to create and support an environment that meets the quality goals of the organization.
  • Resource Management: Understanding of the resources required to achieve business objectives and ability to plan, mobilize and distribute resources to fulfill business objectives and plans.
  • Risk Management: Knowledge of processes, tools and techniques for assessing and controlling an organization's exposure to risks of various kinds; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
