The sourcing function plays a critical role in managing the overall supply chain function including driving supplier performance, sourcing new product, and developing and negotiating contracts aligned to the company’s business objectives for new product, sales, and overall financial performance based on product costs.

The Sourcing Manager is a supply chain leadership position that involves collaborating across multiple Stryker divisions, sites, and functions to manage a world class supply organization. This role requires an ability to build focused, structured, and outcome oriented relationships with key suppliers while building a strategic supply base that meets and exceeds all areas of measurement, including quality, costs, service, delivery, and compliance.

An ability to work across functional disciplines and represent the Sourcing organization as well as the greater business to our supply base is a key to success. This individual will be skilled in building relationships, both internally with cross-function teams and the Sourcing organization, as well as building strong and trusting relationships with their supply base. Individuals are encouraged to find creative approaches based on a deep knowledge of products, relationship history, and data to manage supplier relationships. Metric tracking/measurement and strategy development are important tools for the Sourcing Manager to be successful in the role.

  • Supplier relationship development, overall supplier management, and strategic decision-making of supply base to support all functions and Divisions.
  • Lead development of contract strategy for commodity or product line. Within that, negotiate, establish, monitor, and enforce supplier contracts and agreements for all terms, including IP, cost, supply, quality, etc.
  • Identify supply base risk and develop/implement mitigation plans including market assessments, business risks, technology requirements, supplier's financial assessments, social responsibility, environment, ethics, etc., with the end of goal of measured supply base risk reduction.
  • Develop and collaborate on strategic commodity plans, consolidation strategy, and spend/supply assessments.
  • Develop thorough category strategies to drive value for assigned categories based on an understanding of business unit needs, the supply market, spend baseline, evolution and benchmarking. Effectively document, communicate, and gain buy-in for those strategies
  • Collaborate with NPI team and R&D to identify supplier and technology needs based on deep knowledge of supply base, commodity, and/or product line to implement future supplier strategies.
  • Manage and track supplier performance through enterprise-wide scorecards, performance indicators, and dashboards. Collaborate across functions, divisions, and sites to collect feedback for key suppliers. Organize and lead scorecard review meetings and business reviews. The optimal outcome is to develop a supply base that consistently meets or exceeds defined expectations to deliver value.
  • Communicate key supplier management updates and decisions to multiple levels in the organization including Executive Leadership.
  • Operations/Production support with key suppliers for issues of escalation. Knowledge and expertise of purchasing, manufacturing, and operational activities of both a buy and make organization.
  • Successfully reach business objectives through supplier negotiations. Analyze market and supply dynamics related to supplier proposals to develop a matrix of negotiation scenarios. Engages business leaders to align on acceptable negotiation outcomes and deliver on cost reduction.
  • Knowledge of auditing to ISO13485:2003 and FDA QSR Standards preferred
  • Support additional projects including but not limited to M&A integration activities, internal development programs, lean initiatives, and supplier improvement projects

New Product Introduction (NPI) Specific:
  • Establish supplier selection criteria, evaluate alternative suppliers, manage the RFQ process, and lead final supplier selection to Executive Leadership. Lead cost analyses for Make versus Buy assessment.
  • Develop efficiencies in purchasing controls requirements to facilitate time to market.
  • Further reduction in pre-launch product cost through negotiation, design input and optimal supply chain recommendations.
  • Support product launch for Cross-Division product lines
  • Drive Early Supplier Involvement initiatives to ensure our commodity suppliers are proactively providing input into new product designs and future product roadmaps.
  • Negotiate all contracts and agreements for pre-launch activities

Job Requirements

  • 8+ experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Quality, Industrial Engineering or another relevant degree
  • Master’s in Business Administration preferred
  • Supplier/Project Management experience and certification
  • Knowledge and application of supplier contract strategy, negotiations, contractual terms, and contract administration
  • Knowledge of supplier processes and supply chain risk factors including experience in assessing and mitigating risk in the supply base
  • Commodity specific experience - PCBA, Wire Harnesses, Machining, Sheet Metal, OEM
  • Experience with supplier metrics and measurement methodologies and supporting systems
  • Supplier Audit experience in quality system standards: FDA QSR, ISO 13485 and ISO 9001
  • Demonstrated collaboration, negotiation, conflict resolution skills (relationship management)
  • Knowledge of supplier contract terms, processes, and ability to apply
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement and cost reduction methodologies
  • Knowledge of supplier management IT systems (Oracle, SAP, SRMs, CRMs, iSupply or related)
  • Able to travel 20% of the time
