Job Description

Creates technical service manuals for the Instrument’s Service department, including authoring, graphics, and translation management

Essential Responsibilities

  • Research, design, and develop all service manuals for Instrument’s Service, including authoring and graphics
  • Review service manuals against market regulations and industry performance standards to determine compliance and fitness for release to markets
  • Oversee the translation of service manuals into multiple languages for international distribution
  • Develop and maintain procedures that govern business processes as they pertain to technical writing or service manuals
  • Manage post-market changes to service manuals

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Technical Communication, English, or a related field.
  • 2 -5 years’ experience as a technical writer
  • Preferred 2+ years writing for the medical device industry
  • Ability to identify, understand, and apply governmental regulations and industry performance standards to develop labeling for medical devices
  • Project management skills
  • Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite (Adobe InDesign and Acrobat required; Photoshop and Illustrator are a plus)
  • Proficiency writing in an XML editor (such as Arbortext); familiarity using a Content Management System (CMS) for archival of digital assets
  • Writing for an international audience; localization
  • Writing in Standard Technical English

Physical/Mental Requirements

  • Ability to sit at a desk, in front of a computer for hours at a time
  • Ability to climb stairs, lift small- to medium-sized medical devices (not exceeding 25 pounds)
  • Ability to type
  • Ability to research and understand highly technical or legal text.
  • Ability to translate technical, complex concepts and terminology into easily understood messages and materials.
  • Ability to analyze audience needs and develop appropriate communication strategies.
  • Ability to organize information, handle multiple concurrent projects
  • Ability to envision multiple methods for communicating information—via word, imagery, or unique combinations thereof
  • Ability to identify health, compliance, and business risks and to make sound decisions based on an analysis of all risks
  • Ability to write. Impeccable grammar and professional style.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally—in one-on-one situations or in group presentations
  • Ability to persuade others; ability to form logical arguments and defend a position
  • Ability to prioritize tasks of self based on publication deadlines and divisional needs
