Job Description

As a Senior Staff Engineer you will design and develop requirements, prototypes, and solutions to deliver mechanical and/or electromechanical design solutions for robotic surgical applications. Works in close collaboration with marketing, system engineering, quality assurance, and program management to deliver products for Stryker customers per the product development roadmap.

This is an individual contributor role that requires the use of judgement in applying professional expertise and is expected to work independently with minimal supervision. This position requires professional mastery of mechanical and electromechanical design that typically requires a college degree or equivalent. The job requires professional knowledge gained through substantial applicable work experience, in addition to formal knowledge, in order to apply principles and concepts in resolving issues as they arrive. The job requires good analytical skills as well as evaluative judgement based on the analysis of factual and qualitative information in complicated or novel situations. 

Specific Responsibilities:

- Generate detailed drawings and apply appropriate GD&T, material selection, surface finish, heat treatment, and notes.

- Review peer designs and contribute to building and testing of prototypes.

- Work under supervision with surgeon customers in a user setting, clearly communicate design goals, and incorporate feedback into designs.

- Investigates defined issues with uncertain cause including input solicitation and data gathering that help differentiate the symptoms and root cause of defined problems and propose problem resolutions.

- Meet the needs of internal customers such as GQO, AO, AQE etc. as applicable for specific project assignments.

- Release applicable documentation through Stryker's quality system.

- Clearly communicate status of assignments, coordinate tasks, and shift priorities as dictated by project demands.

- Coordinate project execution amongst corresponding components.

- Assist program management to define, maintain, and execute corresponding detailed project plan(s) which identify and sequence the activities needed, the resources required, and a schedule to successfully complete the project under professional leadership.

- Provide voice for hardware development team within applicable project team to ensure team’s success.

- Share best practices and own project experience within own team.

- Guide design team on concept creation, evaluation, and eventual commercialization providing past experiences to ensure team meets quality, cost, and timeline commitments.

- Mentor other engineers to build technical/professional capability.

- Integrate and administer development tools including required validations as applicable.
