The Job's Mission

Imorphics is a Stryker company providing leading-edge 3D computer vision in medical technology applications from robotic surgery to clinical trials.  We are looking for a self-motivated, mathematically skilled engineer with a strong interest in making high performance software. You will have the flexibility and communication skills to operate effectively in a high calibre team, in a regulated environment.

The role initially involves porting computer vision software to multi-core CPU and GPGPU. You will work with other software engineers, medical imaging and computer vision experts to speed up demanding computational algorithms. As you rapidly learn more about our software, you will be able to write new software to support application needs, improve machine learning algorithms, and push software through a medical device specific QMS. You will develop knowledge of 3D computer vision and contribute to a wide range of automated medical imaging applications.

Our technology allows us to provide detailed anatomical information for surgical procedure design and execution, and to undertake powerful clinical trials.

Key Activities & Accountabilities

  • Parallelising existing algorithms on the CPU
  • Porting existing algorithms to the GPU
  • Redesign algorithms to take advantage of multi-core and GPGPU architectures
  • Design, implement and maintain scientific software components both inside and outside a medical device quality management system.
  • Design, implement and troubleshoot algorithms covering linear algebra, computer vision, statistical modelling, and machine learning.
  • Use and improve existing software engineering processes.
  • Fix reported bugs, and proactively solve problems.
  • Support the use of the software in larger medical device systems.


  • Highly numerate undergraduate degree.
  • A relevant post-graduate degree is highly desirable.


  • GPGPU programming
  • Multi-core programming
  • Good experience of C++
  • Problem solving in a technically challenging area.
  • Delivery of high quality results on time and in a professional manner.
  • Collaboration in a technical team.
  • Experience of the following is highly desirable:
    • Porting of existing scientific software to GPGPU.
    • Scientific programming
    • Computational linear algebra
    • Computer vision
    • Machine learning
    • Human anatomy and medical technology.
