The Sr. Materials Manager will have responsibility for Stryker Sustainability Solutions (Lakeland) Purchasing and Supply Planning processes as well as SSS GQO (Lakeland) coordination with Division for Integrated Business Planning (IBP) process execution and communication of product availability. Plans and implements activities and improvements related to the procurement and flow of materials, planning of production schedules, and IBP process.

Specific responsibilities of the Sr. Materials Manager include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Manages, develops, coaches, and engages Materials team. Communicates relevant updates to team. Identifies and provides training and development opportunities for team. Provides consistent feedback to team.
  • Identifies, selects, and trains new Materials team members.
  • Responsible for setting short and long-term goals of department, measuring performance to goals, and setting priorities to achieve goals.
  • Responsible for setting strategic direction of Materials department and developing and executing plan to achieve the strategic goals.
  • Develops, implements, maintains, and improves guidelines and procedures for the materials processes to ensure the necessary material is procured to support daily needs of production and other departments such as Maintenance and Automation.
  • Manages supplier relationships. Negotiates pricing, provides feedback on service performance, and other relevant aspects of supplier responsibilities. Identifies and executes opportunities for cost reductions for materials. Provides input to Global Sourcing regarding performance of supplier and long-term plan with supplier.
  • Manages past due invoice issues with Accounts Payable department including providing necessary feedback to suppliers and internal parties to prevent invoicing issues.
  • Responsible for data integrity in MRP system and for continuous improvement of MRP systems and procedures.
  • Responsible for the production scheduling process, communication of weekly build plan to the Operations team, and reporting of metrics related to build plan attainment.
  • Support the procurement of purchased materials for New Product Development projects.
  • Support the IBP process through ownership of Supply Review meeting including inputs and outputs and provides critical inputs into other aspects of the IBP process such as Demand Review and Executive Management Review. Responsible for improving the relevant aspects of the IBP process and ensuring decisions made during the process are executed.
  • Responsible for coordination of communication to Division key stakeholders regarding supply interruptions through SIN process and other relevant communication methods.
  • Works in accordance with quality system procedures, all regulatory requirements and ensures materials teams works within these procedures.
  • Responsible to stop further processing in the event of encountering non conforming product condition.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains guidelines, procedures, and material control systems.
  • Ensures materials are ordered and in stock to meet company requirements, while maintaining acceptable inventory levels.
  • Keeps informed of all new developments relative to materials and makes recommendations designed to reduce costs and improve systems.
  • Plans, organizes, and sets goals for the Materials Department to best utilize personnel to achieve long and short-term goals.
  • Will train others in Materials related topics
  • Will manage vendor related issues to ensure continuous supply of components while monitoring appropriate relationships are maintained.
  • Will submit periodic reports on areas of responsibility.
  • Monitor and control freight expenses.
  • Monitor excess & obsolescence inventory and submit Disposal Asset Request documentation.
  • Responsible to oversee standard cost activities.
  • Submit/ oversees budget reports for areas of responsibility and monitor for metric achievement.
  • Monitor and control all Materials expenses vs. budget.
  • Commit to EHS policy.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Manages directly and/or through subordinate supervisors the activities of the Materials group.
  • Sets overall group goals and priorities and evaluates subordinate's performance against the goals and priorities.
  • Coaches and develops Materials personnel.
  • Is responsible for the Materials group complying with company policies and corrective actions.
  • Is responsible to manage directly and/or through subordinate supervisors for the engagement activities of the group.

Job Requirements

A Bachelor's Degree is required for this role. APICS, Lead Auditor or similar certification is preferred.

Ideal candidates will also possess the following skills/experiences:
  • A minimum of 10 years of materials management or related experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a people management/supervisory role
  • Medical device or other highly regulated industry experience preferred
  • Knowledge of and experience in contractual negotiations and administration
  • Demonstrated ability to assess and mitigate risk in the supply base
  • ERP system experience is required, experience with ERP implementation is a plus
  • Strong communication skills and proven intercultural competences to interact within our international working environment
  • Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, influencing and presentation skills, with the proven ability to teach and coach others. Must be comfortable presenting at all levels of the organization
  • Lean Manufacturing, Process Excellence/Six Sigma training and/or certification experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of S&OP/IBP processes
  • Demonstrated ability to drive team productivity, while maintaining high levels of employee engagement and morale
  • Demonstrated ability to identify issues, conduct root cause analysis, and take actions to fix issues; create and track KPIs
  • Project Management experience preferred
