What you will do

As a Senior Industrial Designer you will collaborate with our engineering, marketing and user experience groups in the development of new product solutions, using customer centered design to determine appropriate ergonomics, function, interaction paradigms, aesthetics, quality and safety. This role has a strong focus on Stryker’s corporate wide Product Look and Feel initiative, which includes collaborating with internal & external designers and design firms and Stryker’s corporate brand office to ensure consistent design language & end user experience. You would be involved in the process from research to implementation through the use of various design methodologies, merging an understanding of user needs to drive high quality products that exceed our customer’s expectations.


Specific Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with and support cross functional embedded design teams when necessary
  • Support and coordinate activity relative to Stryker’s ongoing Product Look and Feel program
  • Closely collaborate with Stryker’s corporate brand office / and corporate wide brand leaders to ensure consistent messaging and positioning relative to our product’s look and feel
  • Monitor Stryker’s enterprise-wide new product development projects from a Product Look and Feel perspective
  • Responsible for design input related to product offerings, form development, human factors and ergonomics, material selection, finishes, color, brand language and graphical user interfaces
  • Collaborate within a cross functional teams to define and plan design research and discovery activities for the purpose of fueling development and business development projects
  • Collaborate with teams to design and participate in user research analysis and synthesis for the purpose of creating user needs and setting the direction for early concept development.
  • Define and illustrate in 2D and 3D, product concepts and guide development teams through a concept selection process
  • Present design concepts to the project team and industrial design team for critiques
  • Participates in future product road mapping by providing visual concept generation
  • Actively participates in concept modeling and prototyping to communicate new ideas

What you need   

  • BS or BFA degree in Industrial Design or technical equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of practical industrial design and user research experience. Proven experience in new product launch projects
  • Experience: Solidworks, Rhino, Keyshot, Adobe CS, Sketchbook Pro and other design software.
  • Knowledge and experience in designing various types of graphical user interfaces
  • Demonstrated commercial experience in creating & implementing visual brand language
  • Workshop model making skills
  • Demonstrated ability in verbal and visual communication of research, conceptual ideas, and design rationale; all within a user-centered design process.
  • Demonstrated experience & success in collaborating with marketing, engineering, UX and other development team members
  • Demonstrated experience in user / customer centered design
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Possess excellent presentation / public speaking skills
  • Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time
  • Applicants must relocate to Kalamazoo, MI or Dallas, TX. Must be able to work at times in a cadaveric / human tissue environment
  • Experience in medical product device design a plus
