The Job's Mission

Europe Finance will be the preferred business partner to support Stryker’s mission, vision and promise in Stryker Europe.  This will require Finance to focus on the basics of providing financial services and support, deliver value added finance service and support to Stryker Europe.  It is Finance’s responsibility to assist the business in taking unnecessary costs out of its healthcare delivery system, achieve better economies of scale in the utilisation of resources and leverage activities across functions and geographies to improve efficiency and effectiveness.  Finance will be a best in class function, comprised of ethical, talented and engaged people, with efficient processes and effective controls that supports our functions and customers.

This role reports directly to the Business Controller, UK and requires a strong partnership with the Financial Controller, UK, the Senior Finance Analyst (Controlling), the SSC, the European FP&A team, and business partners with the local business.

This position will provide the financial oversight to support the business in country, and that of the finance function across Europe.  This includes driving the month end close process, reviewing business activity, budgeting, planning and actual reporting as necessary for the business.

Key Activities & Accountabilities

Analysis and Business Partnering

  • Interface with Europe FP&A and Divisional Finance Leads regarding Actuals, Budgets, Forecasts and other financial reporting matters, where needed align with local business for input
  • Provide analytical support to the commercial business to gain a better understanding of market trends, customer trends, and sales channel performance, amongst others with
  • Solid price-volume analysis to understand the drivers of sales
  • Prepare revenue calculations old, new and potential volumes
  • Support with business case analysis on offers as well as tenders
  • Prepare margin analysis for business impacts decisions
  • Analyse effect of investments required, challenge the business decisions
  • Provide analysis and insights into variances between actual and expected financial results, amongst others:
  • Monitor discretionary spend and follow up with local divisional marketing team
  • Analyse headcount related costs such as travel & entertainment and follow up appropriately
  • ROI calculation and follow up (based on defined focus area):
  • CER analysis to ensure decisions are based on correct assumptions
  • Track approved CER and follow up on customer sales
  • Collaborate with operations for analysis on CER investments
  • Follow up against budget
  • Track benefit of the investment
  • Proactively communicate changes in business trends, local business decisions or other issues that may have a financial impact.
  • Pro-actively set-up trend analysis, KPIs and dashboards to provide to the commercial business and develop additional reports as required. 
  • Respond to ad-hoc questions and requests for analysis by European FP&A and Divisional Finance leads

Financial Results and Reporting

  • Working in partnership with the Senior Finance Analyst (Controlling) driving the month end close process through to successful and timely completion
  • Review P&L and Balance Sheet information and identify errors or exceptions
  • Check and adjust accruals, prepare journals in collaboration with the SSC
  • Ensure results for the period are complete and accurate 
  • Sales and margin analysis and follow up
  • Flash commentary submission to Europe in collaboration with the Senior Finance Analyst (Controlling)
  • Cash Flow commentary submission to Europe 

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Key role in the planning process including preparing forecast models and preparation of commentary.
  • Provide analysis and insights to establish accurate forecast and budgets
  • Work closely with the business to determine budgetary requirements
  • Ownership of monthly projection process

Other

  • Support with implementation of local country related projects (amongst others Cost Transformation for Growth program)
  • Standardise local reporting across the Divisions
  • Assist with all internal and external audits where required
  • Respond to division related queries and analysis requests from the business
  • Help ensure the accuracy and completeness of the figures
  • Ensure we hit all Corporate/divisional deadlines
  • Play an active role in improving processes

Education

  • University degree
  • Professional certification in accounting
  • English language – other European languages advantageous
  • System’s knowledge of Oracle, Cognos and HFM would be an advantage

Experience

  • 4+ years working in a finance function within a matrixed international company (preferably US) you will be experienced in analysing data, reporting, and month end closing. 
  • You will be used to working closely with the business providing additional information as and when needed, and you will be comfortable working to tight deadlines.
