Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understanding of project management principles to effectively complete assignments and achieve desired outcomes.
  • Plans and directs new product development, performs both processes and product development activities, leads design team activity to modify plans as appropriate if problems arise, and improves/supports existing processes.
  • Ability to effectively interact within a team environment and with other departments such as Quality, Operations, Regulatory Affairs, Mfg.  Engineering, Customer Service, Marketing, Sales, as well as external customers and suppliers.
  • Troubleshoot product issues, determine root cause failure, and implement corrective actions.
  • Prepares communication in weekly/monthly reports, status updates, detailing progress and costs for design reviews and management team.
  • Establishes test protocols specified by customer input, national and international standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Directs and facilitates the testing of new products to verify product reliability.  Leads the development of technical protocols and reports.
  • Advanced ability to generate detailed project plans, manage/execute simultaneous tasks, and accelerate project tasks.
  • Advanced understanding of statistical analysis principles as they relate to data analysis and testing reports.
  • Knowledge of requirements associated with the development of medical devices including Design Control and the technical support required for regulatory submissions.
  • May have supervisory responsibilities of interns or R&D technicians on departmental projects.

Qualifications (Education, Certifications and/or Experience)

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or science field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in Mechanical, Electrical, and/or Biomedical Engineering (medical device company preferred)
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Project, Visio.
  • Internet research regarding materials, processes, equipment, and vendors.
  • Ability to direct development of an action plan and estimate requirements for resources – management, tasks, budgets, labor, materials, and time required to complete projects.
  • Advanced knowledge of FDA requirements associated with the development of medical devices including Design Control and the technical support required for regulatory submissions preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of medical terminology/concepts related to medical devices.
  • Familiar with material/component analysis methods for metallic and non-metallic materials/components such as; hardness, micro-hardness, surface finish, dimensional, tensile, torque, polymer analytical chemistry, etc.
  • RSS and Six Sigma tolerance analysis methods.
  • Vendor selection and oversight.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to plan/prioritize activities.
  • Ability to work in dynamic team and company setting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to present issues, plans and objectives.
  • Ability to work in fast paced organization, meeting multiple deadlines and succeeding under pressure is a must.
  • Motivated, resourceful, ambitious, enthusiastic and attentive to detail.
