Job Description

The Senior Director Logistics Solutions EMEA is fully responsible for the EMEA Logistics Solutions (LS) organization based in the Netherlands (Venlo & Amsterdam) within EMEA Operations and as part of the global Logistics Solutions team (including the Warehouse Operations, the Central Distribution Center located in Venlo, the Netherlands, Trade Compliance and the Transportation team), supporting all Stryker divisions. The main objectives are to provide clear leadership and strategic direction to the function, create a reputation of excellence and ensure a “Best in Class” organization is created and maintained through implementing solutions to further develop, drive and improve customer satisfaction / experience, manage and reduce costs, enhance and develop processes, and support the creation and optimization of an end-to-end supply chain.
 

Key Responsibilities & Activities:

  • Set the direction for the EMEA LS team, together with the management team, to ensure organizational readiness and alignment with customer needs and delivery capability for the required service levels.
  • Ensure strategic planning of the EMEA Logistics Solutions function aligns with the Stryker mission and company-wide objectives and initiatives.
  • Lead in the development, modification and improvement of the overall Stryker distribution network, the EMEA physical footprint, procedures, policies, processes and the development of new services to increase external and internal customer satisfaction and lower overall costs. This in close collaboration / cooperation with other (relevant) functions.
  • Ensure all EMEA LS activities are in line with the applicable Medical Device Directives, applicable  quality standards, Health & Safety, and any other local & international laws, rules & regulations.
  • Lead and oversee all activities related to the EMEA LS budget and headcount plan, including budget, projection and strategic planning and long-and short-term resource capacity planning. P&L responsibility.
  • Establishes and enforces programs for maintaining company standards of sanitation, maintenance, security, housekeeping, safety and adherence to all European, national and local statutes.
  • Ensure compliance with global, European and local regulations regarding health & safety, regulatory and hazardous materials, as well as internal policies and procedures.
  • Active participation in the EMEA Operations Leadership team and Global Logistics Solutions Leadership Team and in the development and execution of the both EMEA and global strategy for logistics.
  • Influences the development of systems and procedures for operating and managing physical facilities, human capital, equipment, and products in a compliant and profitable manner.
  • Ensure Business Continuity Plans are in place for EMEA LS to avoid any supply disruptions and to ensure continuity of services to external & internal customers (e.g. fire, natural disasters, etc.).
  • Taking accountability / direct involvement, following up and solving significant or structural disruptions in the distribution network.
  • Full collaboration with the Europe and EEMEA divisions, and all other divisions sourcing from the distribution center, to pursue the highest level of service with the lowest possible inventory levels.
  • Ensure all activities related to EMEA Logistics Solutions are as much as possible in a sustainable manner with the lowest possible carbon footprint.
  • Ensure all activities are appropriately covered from an insurance and risk management perspective.
  • Provide required support and input in Mergers & Acquisition and business integration projects.
  • Implementation of a region wide Trade Compliance program to assure the seamless crossing of all shipments across all countries within EMEA.
  • Responsible for leading and assisting in the implementation of logistics operations, launches and new initiatives across EMEA.
  • (re)Allocate and align internal resources and hire external resources as needed to ensure the appropriate Logistics Solutions organizational structure is in place.
  • Responsible for overall Facility Management of the Venlo facility.
  • Build and develop a strong and stable logistics and operations team with team members who have capability to further grow and develop.
  • Pursue engaged and committed teams.
  • Strategic oversight for implementing effective performance evaluations and for recommending the appropriate talent development strategy.
  • Ensure all activities related to employee engagement, talent reviews and periodic employee reviews are conducted across the organization.
  • Promote and support a culture of engagement and continuous improvement within EMEA Operations that results in increased performance, cost savings, safety, quality and productivity improvements.
  • Responsible for building leadership competencies with direct reports and line leaders to ensure that they are coaching employees to meet and exceed their productivity and quality metrics.
  • Coach, develop and mentor EMEA Operations staff (direct and indirect) to ensure ongoing career development, growth and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the physical handling, storage, transportation and inventory control of all products transacted through the distribution center in line with the divisional, corporate operational and strategic objectives while delivering on the required customer service levels and operating in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Ensure “Right Product, in the Right Quantity, with the Right Quality, at the Right Place, at the Right Time”.
  • Establish, review and maintain appropriate and agreed upon KPI’s to measure the performance and enable improvement programs.
  • Develop and manage a system of controls to ensure that quality, service levels, freight and operational performance goals are met within prescribed cost parameters and meet or exceed divisional and customer needs.
  • Monitor operational KPI’s to proactively identify possible bottlenecks or disruptions that can jeopardize the flow of goods.
  • Provide reporting and periodic highlights on all key metrics related to service levels, total costs, freight costs, trade compliance etc. to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Oversee the strategic engagement and partnerships with the EMEA freight carriers to ensure best possible service at most optimal cost and in developing new services which are focused on the characteristics of the Medical Device industry.
  • Support of divisional and customer requirements and standards.
  • Oversight and responsibility for EMEA LS budgeting and requirements planning as well as the execution and adherence to the Profit and Loss (P&L) statement across the region and globe.
  • Responsible for setting yearly departmental budget and monthly projections.
  • Interact with and leverage opportunities to demonstrate Logistics Solutions’ value proposition with the Stryker divisions, customers and other key groups and constituents.
  • Collaboration with divisions, EMEA / global operations and manufacturing to develop fulfillment models to meet short- and long-term business goals and to ensure the proper communication and understanding of and adherence to customers’ needs.
  • Participate as a member of other leadership teams (e.g. ONV and Strategic Sourcing).
  • Key point of contact and liaison for EMEA LS with Operations, Divisions, GQO, IT, HR, Finance, Security, Facilities, and Safety and any other internal departments as needed.

Your qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's / graduate degree in Business Administration, Materials Management, Life Sciences, Engineering or equivalent is required.
  • A post-graduate qualification in Warehousing, Logistics or Operations would be strongly preferred
  • APICS certification is highly preferred.
  • Formal training in (and experience with) Lean, Process Excellence, Six Sigma tools, etc. is preferred.
  • Proven track record in operations leadership within a multinational organization including: 
  • 15+ years of experience in Supply Chain management, Logistics, Operations or related fields are required.
  • 10+ years of experience in multi-shift, automated and labor-intensive distribution, logistics, manufacturing and/or supply chain operations.
  • 7+ years’ experience in a people management role.
  • Prior experience in influencing multiple teams and groups across an international organization.
  • Prior experience in working in a multi-national and -cultural environment.
  • Must have strong understanding of end-to-end supply chain interactions and interdependencies and warehousing in terms of set-up, capacity planning and optimization.
  • Leading within a decentralized, matrix organization.
  • Medical device standards and regulatory needs.
  • Leading and managing multiple projects.
  • Business Process Analysis.
  • Experience in reverse logistics in Medical Device or Healthcare Markets.
  • High sense of customer service orientation.
  • Hands on work experience with and knowledge of logistics management, warehousing, fulfillment, inventory, planning, supply chain, order management and MRP tools / system.
  • Well versed in Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Visio or other flow charting software and/or Microsoft Project (or similar).
  • Experience with International Standards (e.g. ISO / FDA).
  • Fluency in English, Fluency in a second (European) language is a plus.
