The Senior Compliance Manager, Professional Development and Advocacy oversees the professional development of Compliance department members to ensure strategic support to Stryker’s businesses and regions, enable business results and manage risk. This position also oversees the department’s participation in industry associations to ensure Stryker’s interests are represented in alignment with Legal, RAQA, Government Affairs, and other partners. Among other responsibilities, this position leads education development and delivery for compliance committee members and manages department planning and administration to ensure execution of the Compliance strategy and related goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee professional development of Compliance department members to ensure strategic support to Stryker’s businesses and regions; own design and development of curriculum.
  • Work closely with the leadership team and collaborate across the department to implement and maintain professional development program.
  • Directly manage the Associate Compliance Manager, Professional Development and Advocacy and the professional development budget.
  • Manage strategic participation in industry associations to ensure Stryker’s interests are effectively represented. Partner with Legal, Government Affairs, and RAQA to ensure alignment.
  • Effectively lead education development and delivery for compliance committee members, including division and region presidents and other senior leaders across Stryker.
  • Lead department planning efforts, including goal setting, cadence and agendas for Compliance department meetings and communications, and other key department initiatives. 
  • Maintain broad-based knowledge of the organization and its operations to inform department goals and objectives. 
  • Identify and implement best practices in the areas of professional development, industry association participation, and department planning and administration. 
  • Identify, select, and manage external vendor relationships as needed.
  • Exercise independent judgment to make decisions of significant impact to the company.
  • Develop strong relationships throughout multiple businesses and regions to foster a consistent and collaborative approach to proactive compliance.
  • Maintain high level of knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards. 
  • Establish a strong tone at the top and further the department’s strategic priorities.       
  • Demonstrate well-developed ability to identify issues, engage appropriate stakeholders, complete root cause analysis, and assess effectiveness of solution within area of responsibility.
  • Effectively inspire, educate, and empower others across multiple businesses and functions. 


  • B.A. or B.S. from accredited university required.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of 10+ years of work experience required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in applying external requirements to key activities and processes.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and leading large-scale, global initiatives.
  • High level of professionalism and executive presence. 
  • Perceived as highly competent with high level of business acumen and good judgment.
  • Able to initiate, embrace and support change in a dynamic and complex environment.
  • Oversees complex diverse work of significant impact to the organization.
  • Well-developed ability to show discretion and maintain confidentiality. 
  • Well-developed understanding of business financials and reporting and ability to allocate resources for maximum impact. 
  • Demonstrates excellent communication, leadership, and influencing skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in building team effectiveness.  

Must be able to:

  • Exercise independent judgment with strong attention to detail.
  • Analyze, understand and communicate complicated issues to leaders to ensure understanding.
  • Develop solutions based on best practices and customer feedback. 
  • Solicit input from leaders and exercise independent judgment in providing recommendations to the business.

  • Communicate telephonically and via email and other electronic means.
  • Effectively navigate Workday and Microsoft Office Suite.
