Job Description

The Marketing and Medical Education Director Latin America will have ownership of the business revenue, market share and portfolio of products and will report directly to the President for LatAm. The successful candidate will have responsibility for formulating and executing an effective strategic marketing plan to drive above market growth and share gains while maximizing new product launches and optimizing key customer relationships across the region.
The leader will be responsible for centrally planning, organizing, leading all activities of the business to deliver sustainable growth and drive profitability for the Latin America region. Specific responsibilities include delivering, development and implementation of strategic marketing strategy including medical education, budgets, financial plans, sales training in collaboration with the indirect sales and marketing partners in the region.

Key focus areas will be to:
  • Drive and deliver on upstream business linkages;
  • Commercial Strategy;
  • Product Life Cycle Management;
  • Product Launches;
  • Delivery and Execution of Medical Education Plans;
  • Develops and implements the region’s sales on boarding and on-going sales training curriculum;
  • Create an Effective Working Partnership with the RAQA Function;
  • Work with Franchise directors to ensure leadership of franchise specific plans.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Be a core member of the Latin America Leadership Team and play a key role in the development of cross-functional business strategies. All the time driving performance excellence in Sales/Marketing systems and processes for Stryker’s Brands;
  • Lead the strategic sales/marketing planning process for Latin America, defining its overall strategy and setting key business performance objectives and agree on commitments with country leads in a coordinated manner with the rest of the team;
  • Develop and recommend short and medium term business plans for the region and associated tactical activities to ensure sales, operating profit and business plans are achieved all the while making sure that a sustainable process is in place to support them;
  • Identify and execute on strategic growth opportunities by market via entrance and exit strategies as well as mergers and acquisitions for the business;
  • Consult and communicate with all areas of the company especially US & International marketing, new product development, R&D, and global manufacturing to assist in the understanding SYK’s global product marketing and business strategy.
Manage Product Launches:
  • Work closely with the US and implement key Brand product introductions in Latin America;
  • Establish an effective product launch process to take into account all local regulatory conditions;
  • Provide direction and leadership to the local marketing organizations as they roll out the launch locally;
  • Manage portfolio and lifecycle in line with PLCM guidelines.
Medical Education
  • Direct responsibility for Business Education activities across Latin America (internal and external);
  • Plans, directs and coordinates Medical Education activities across Latin America including educational courses, labs, grants, symposium and lectures within a defined budget;
  • Manage professional relationships with consultants, program directors, surgeons, residents, fellows, and other key opinion leaders in Latin America;
  • Create and implement educational programs and strategies to ensure HCPs are well trained on applicable Stryker products.
Sales Training
  • Build comprehensive product training curriculum to develop clinical expertise, clinical selling skills, customer influence, and a regional strategy for new hires and experienced sales reps;
  • Responsible for in-house and field product sales training curriculums and all continuing education requirements;
  • Coordinates all training phases, events, education materials, videos & other resources;
  • Develop “Train the Trainer” program and expectations for sales representatives;
  • Manages all training budgets.

Job Requirements

  • Degree in Business, Marketing, Human Resources (training design/delivery) or related discipline. Master’s degree preferred;
  • Experience in sales training, surgical training or project management with clear progression in terms of responsibilities and scope of roles;
  • Experience in medical devices sales and/or Marketing;
  • Demonstrated experience in KOL management;
  • Demonstrable leadership qualities;
  • Excellent communication skills with proficiency in spoken and written English;
  • Ability to move others to take action;
  • Hands-on ability to implement swiftly and effectively by taking ownership and accepting responsibility;
  • High ethical standards and integrity;
  • Strong interpersonal skills – the individual requires excellent communication skills (written & verbal) plus the ability to relate well to colleagues & surgeons from varied divisions markets & cultures;
  • Strategic – A strong strategy based thinker looks at the short and long term impact of decisions made.
