What you will do

As a Radiation Safety Specialist, you will act as the authorized on-site specialist for Stryker’s Instruments division. You will work with Division leadership to develop strategies and tactics relative to technical and regulatory direction of the radiation safety program. You will also develop and manage the radiation program for the Division and potentially other adjacent Stryker divisions as well.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure Stryker is operating within state licensure and state and federal regulatory requirements applicable to radiation safety and radiation emitting devices. This will include working with third parties.
  • Develop a process in conjunction with New Product Development and QMS resources to ensure risk factors relating to radiation emitting devices are considered and during product development. Ensures appropriate risk mitigation actions such as training and labeling are in place.
  • Work with appropriate Stryker entities and the M&A team to coordinate integration of acquired entities which possess potential radiation hazards.
  • Lead effort to develop appropriate processes for post market monitoring. This may include employee monitoring, responding to customer inquiries, investigations, etc.
  • Conduct annual audits of radiation producing devices which are stationary and operating conditions for the devices have not changed during the past year.
  • May develop radiation safety training curriculum.
  • Provide radiation protection instruction and training for personnel who in the course of their general workday, are present where radiation is, or has the potential to be, emitted:
  • Maintains a Basic Radiation Awareness course in the Stryker Learning Management System (SLMS).
  • Cooperates with Stryker Vendor Credentialing and Human Resources to assign SLMS course(s) to appropriate employee population which may include any employee exposed to potential radiation.  
  • Ensure all employees are properly monitored where radiation is emitted or has the potential to be emitted with a radiation dosimeter and that they are trained in Basic Radiation Awareness.
  • Ensure dosimetry is provided for all Stryker related events where radiation will be emitted.
  • Understand the As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) concept and the need to maintain exposures ALARA to all.
  • Ensure all employees are aware of the Pregnant Worker Policy for personnel exposed to ionizing radiation and their options within that policy.
  • Work with Stryker GQO EHS Director to create and maintain an up-to-date Radiation Safety Program Inventory, including all radiation generating devices owned or leased by Stryker GQO, rooms where radiation may be or is emitted, rooms where X-ray generating devices are stored, and the names of all personnel who operate these devices
  • Manage interface with Health Physics contractor to deliver radiation protection support beyond job description / capability.
  • Monitor x-ray generating devices to assure safe operations and that employees are trained of safe operations of x-ray generating devices.
  • Maintain any equipment necessary to perform tasks outlined herein.

What you need

  • Associates degree or graduate of JRCERT accredited Radiology program
  • One or more years of experience AND ARRT certified OR eligible and committed to receiving licensure with one year
  • Excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Maintain a high degree of self-motivation
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Effective analytical skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments and functions; with a team and resolve problems using independent judgement within tight deadlines
  • Fundamental computer skills (Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

You may also have

  • Experience as a Radiological Technologist
  • Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Science or Health Sciences
  • MRSO certification
  • Experience with state regulations

Work From Home: Occasional

Travel Percentage: 10%
