WHAT YOU WILL DO:

As Program Director, you will be responsible for delivering our Division’s flagship software products for use in Operating Rooms around the world.  Your products will be a critical element of how we accomplish Stryker’s mission: Together with our customers, we are driven to make healthcare better.  This position includes dual responsibilities as both a Program Lead and a Functional Lead.

As a Program Lead, you will play a hands-on role in executing our portfolio of projects.  Multiple projects exist within your program and you will be responsible for making sure those projects collectively meet our objectives.  This includes managing the tradeoffs and dependencies, managing stakeholders, and identifying and covering any gaps between projects.  Your project teams will collectively be composed of over 100 people distributed throughout the world, primarily organized into Agile Scrum teams.

As a Functional Lead, you will help shape the way we execute software projects.  Your expertise will help optimize our business processes and structures so that we can best deliver impactful surgical software products to our customers.  Software PMs and Scrum Masters will sit within your program structure and you will have dotted-line management of these software leaders, ensuring their success and helping our organization grow the skills and people we need to be successful.   

To succeed in this role you should be a leader that people want to follow.  You should be a Project Management expert with a successful track record of delivering new products to external customers.  You should have strong experience with Agile software development and be capable of guiding an organization in best practices.  You should have strong stakeholder-management skills.  You should have a clear, demonstrable understanding of business tradeoffs as well as a history of being trusted with critical business decisions.  And you should be able to develop others in these same skills.

Essential Functions:

  • Deliver strategically-critical new products to market.
  • Deliver updates to existing products.
  • Integrate multiple project plans.
  • Manage cost, schedule, and performance.
  • Manage program-level risks
  • Develop business processes needed to make the program a success
  • Manage and inform stakeholders
  • Ensure a positive return on investment
  • Lead a cross-functional team and ensure all technical and business requirements are met
  • Monitor and develop the performance of project leaders

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Degree required in an Engineering or related field.  Masters in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent preferred.
  • 10+ years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Leadership experience with Agile software development.
  • Successful track record of launching new products to external customers.
  • Significant project management experience.
  • Ability to communicate and influence at all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to bring together multiple functions (R&D, Marketing, Quality, Operations, etc.) as a cohesive team
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Preferred: Experience at a medical device company.
