Summary:

Stryker presents a rare and exciting opportunity to join a highly motivated team in developing new products for orthopedic solutions. The successful candidate will be based at SGTC and provides technical leadership to a multi-disciplined team in establishing the needs of our customers while designing and bringing innovative solutions for Orthopedic solutions to market.

The Principal/Senior Principal Engineer supports the R&D team on technical challenges in the development of cost effective, best in class new products for Orthopedic solutions. He/She should have understanding and experience in application of engineering principles, techniques and concepts, providing technical leadership and training to product development teams to enable exceptional product performance and satisfaction of user needs.

A technical expert, Principal/Senior Principal Engineer will provide coaching and mentoring for the R&D team members. Through creativity and ingenuity, He/She will promote and stimulate an environment that supports the generation of value-adding intellectual property in alignment with the clinical and technology road maps of the business. While maintaining a customer focus, He/She will support collaboration across the cross functional teams, promoting connectivity for an integrated R&D strategy in Orthopedic applications.

He/She will provide technical support and counsel to R&D project teams on active projects. He/She will also identify emerging technologies and instigate, manage, support and provide direction on early stage research that is consistent with the objectives of the clinical and technology road maps of the business.

Roles & Responsibilities:

•    You will create imaginative, thorough and practical technical solutions that are key to successful product development. Protect technology development that are core to the long-term success of the business through the patent protection and invention disclosure process.
•    You will provide technical leadership to highly creative design teams internally and externally to invent and develop innovative successful new product concepts.  Co-ordinate smart, innovative solutions to design challenges, and research in problem areas of considerable scope and complexity. 
•    You will evaluate and advise on concepts for mechanical function and manufacturability. Drive product designs and creation of prototypes from customer concepts and/or specifications to test and validate ideas
•    Through advanced statistical techniques and engineering tools, drive design approaches and parameters and initiate feasibility studies on new designs. Act as Independent Reviewer for design review meetings, while building a technology network, both internal and external. Collaborate with other technical leaders in other business units and divisions to ensure a holistic approach is being taken on customer solutions 
•    While understanding other functions and divisions capabilities, drive interaction with Marketing, Project Management, suppliers, advanced manufacturing engineering and advanced operations to meet user needs, resolve issues, and optimize design for manufacturability and efficiency. Will ensure designs are cost efficient, manufacturable and reliable
•    You will identify, determine product requirements, review production drawings for parts and assemblies and develop and manage full product design documentation
•    You will be accountable to achieve product performance, quality objectives, program planning and effective execution, as well as communicating program status and escalating issues when appropriate. 
•    Advises teams on approaches to resolving end customers product related issues, through problem solving and troubleshooting product design, product training and relationship building.
•    Guides management and supports business development as required on technical direction and participates in the analysis of emerging technologies. 
•    Coach and develop team members;
•    All other duties as assigned 
 

Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:

•    Bachelor Engineering Degree (Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Biomedical Engineering) with a minimum of 15 years or more experience, or a related Master’s degree with 8 years or more experience, or related PhD with 6 years or more experience
•    Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to express ideas and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams. 
•    Strong communication skills. Must demonstrate the ability to communicate up/down and across different levels of the organization.
•    Innovative approach to envisioning new and better ways to work
•    Teaching complex problem-solving techniques related to design/technical issues. Good instincts and sound judgment for mechanical and structural design.
•    Expert in statistical tools and validation/verification techniques.
•    Excellent analytical skills, ability to plan, organize, and implement multiple concurrent tasks.
•    Must be able to analyze and correct complex product and/or process issues and make decisions using independent judgement
•    Expertise in human anatomy and common surgical procedures is a benefit.
•    Good working knowledge of engineering materials and design, coating technologies, plastic part design, 3D Printing and advanced manufacturing technologies. Fluent in 3D CAD with good working knowledge of Finite Element Analysis tools.
•    Must be a Subject Matter Expert in engineering areas such as the interpretation of complex engineering drawings, geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing, stack-up analysis and limits and fits.
•    Must be able to generate, follow and explain detailed proposals and operating procedures with an in depth understanding of ISO 13485 and FDA quality system requirements
•    The individual should enjoy working in a dynamic and results oriented team environment focusing on quality, compliance and customer satisfaction
•    Willingness to travel for live surgery, customer visits and global partner collaboration
